Foley was the last big powerful ball carrier we had at 8 unfortunately.

The pack in that match you referenced was a world away from what we have now.
Claw v McGrath = McGrath is good and will be better but Claw was an animal
Wood v Best = No contest even if Best is very good in his own right.
Hayes v Ross = The much maligned Hayes can more than match Ross, even if Ross is a bit better in the scrum
Galwey v Ryan / McCarthy = Galwey would eat them for breakfast.
O'Kelly v Toner = O'Kelly more talented, even taking some ruck inspecting into the equation I'd take O'Kelly any day.
Miller v Stander = Miller even if he was a bit of a dirty fecker who enjoyed kicking a fella in his bag.

Wallace v VDF(or anyone else available or not) = No contest. Only Ferris could be considered in Wally's league.
Foley v Heaslip = Heaslip at his best is better overall but Foley certainly was more of a ball carrier although Heaslip was well able to do that in his younger years.
It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.

I never had an issue with Hayes, he maybe played on at international level a year or two longer than he was really fit for, but as usual, there was no one else to replace him at that stage.Unread postby Shan » Sat Mar 05, 2016 12:36 am

Unfair comparison when you consider who is missing from Ireland. Healy, Henderson, POM and SOB would be a completely different proposition if all fit. Probably our 4 best carriers.
Climb up onto the top of your house and start screaming: 'stand up for the Ulstermen, stand.......'
