Not a remotely funny name but a great name for newsreaders was Mr Joshua Nkomo, I think Jan almost swallowed her tongue a few times on "Unnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnkomo".
Feck that takes me back. I remember my dad used to love saying Joshua Nkomo. That and Nabih Berri. He'd get as much fun out of saying those names as the likes of Fred Cogley got from saying Jean-Baptiste Lafond. Innocence which wasn't such a bad thing.

The title gives it away ,"on this day" but that's okay.Cap'n Grumpy wrote:I believe you are correct, albeit it was #1 for just one week.Kofi Annan wrote:How much is that Doggie in the Window was number one in 1953
I believe Frankie Laine took the #1 spot the following week and remained there for 9 weeks.
I believe he then dropped to #2 for just one week before returning to #1 for a further 6 weeks.
I believe he again dropped to #2 for another week and again returned to #1 for another 3 weeks.
I believe that made 18 weeks in total @ #1 for that particular song by Frankie.
If only I could remember what it was called?

William III and Mary II are crowned joint king and queen of England, Scotland and Ireland. This day 1689.

I'm not big on history Kofi, did that not create a substantial superfluity of monarchs at the time, or at the very best was Jim II not a bit perturbed? The very sort of thing that could start a war in those days.Kofi Annan wrote:William III and Mary II are crowned joint king and queen of England, Scotland and Ireland. This day 1689.
The French had the right idea 1793 when Louis lost his head. Vive la Republic.
I can however tolerate the Spanish Monarchy, given the circumstances in which that ballix Franco had to be replaced. Young Felpe Six has been actively involved in trying to see a government formed rather than new elections, it's as complex as matters in Dublin.
As an aside, the party I will be voting for Podemos, only founded in 2014 took over 20% of the vote up from 8% in their first ever election, & almost bang on 20% of seats. Spain's greatest hope for ridding the pace of endemic corruption in politics. Putting their money where their mouth is, none of the Podemos MEP's take even 25% of the usual MEP salary.
