Re: Bad News Day for the DUPers.
I started school in 1969 - an auspicious year if ever there was one!
Had to take the old blazer and tie off and run the gauntlet of bricks down the Short Strand when there was a bomb scare on the Albert Bridge and the driver wouldn't go any further or divert...
My young lad is coming 18 - he has friends everywhere of every persuasion and none.
He says its wont be his generation but the next that sorts things out - he's listened to too many stories about The Troubles from parents and grandparents as have his friends to make a real difference.
Depressing if this is indeed the case.

Re: Bad News Day for the DUPers.
Most of us in the South came to the cash for ash scandal quite late because we don't follow your day to day politics very much. We have enough to be getting on with down here.
But I was impressed for a little while that maybe normal politics was taking root up there and that a good old fashioned financial scandal showed that the same standards of accountability that apply in other jurisdictions to mistakes by a minister would apply in Stormont. In other words, people were moving on from the old shyte that's afflicted us for centuries to "normal" bread and butter politics, so I thought.
But I was wrong. As soon as an election is called it becomes clear you may as well be back in 1690.

Or 1970 indeed.
But there's no need to get abusive on me, Russ. You dish it out very easily.

I think that it's that just Russ in a cranky mood.
I don't know but it might have something to do with a feeling that Ulster aren't getting a fair shake from the IRFU.
Contrast the Pienaar and Taute situations, for example.
Having the handle Dublin4 possible doesn't help

No, you were right the first time. 1690 symbolises the orange - green divisions here in a way that no other date can, and it does so without apportioning blame to either side. Don't understand the OTT reactions to your comments.Dublin4 wrote:Or 1970 indeed.
