Jono will be holding local talent back, he hasnt even lived in Lisburn.....
Always ask yourself, "What would Big Rodney do"... And every time the answer is... "Eat It"
Re: Jono Gibbes - New Head Coach
They will find him a house in Lisburn and that will satisfy Worldwide search criteria.Cornerfleg wrote:Jono will be holding local talent back, he hasnt even lived in Lisburn.....

Would it be too much to assume that Maurice would not be coming to be a direct replacement for Doak and that Head Coach may be a more meaningful title from next season with Kiss concentrating on some of the other areas in which he does not have a proven record of failure?
Re: Jono Gibbes - New Head Coach
That he's a forwards coach implies that Clarke is out. That he's coming as head coach implies Doak is out. Good enough for me!
Re: Jono Gibbes - New Head Coach
Gibbes coming in as head coach, with a view to promotion to DoR after a year would make most sense.BR wrote:Would it be too much to assume that Maurice would not be coming to be a direct replacement for Doak and that Head Coach may be a more meaningful title from next season with Kiss concentrating on some of the other areas in which he does not have a proven record of failure?

Stringer, I have no idea about, BOD's ego would get in the way.Cockatrice wrote:Not sure about the one step removed because is he not coming as Head Coach the same title that Doak had. Obviously we won't need the current Forward Coach on the basis that Gibbs probably know one end of a scrum from the other.. I'm
Elsewhere Not sure why anyone thinks that just because your a good player you automatically become a good coach overnight..
Can't wait to see what happens to the first forward that tells Gibbs 'I know how to jump in a line out go coach someone that isn't an international' because that should be a fun day.
Otherwise sounds like a sound recruitment and some who already knows the internal issues that come with coaching in Aaireland.. If Hewitt was second choice and didn't make/want it it says a lot for the first choice who said no and none of them live in Lisburn.
Well done certainly a step forward..

Cockers it's not their ability as a player that adds to their coaching chops, it's the experiences they have picked up playing at the top level and learning from the best coaches in the world.
My interest in Ruan as a coach and I believe I have explained this one before, is for his rugby brain, integrity and dedication to the cause. Give me a guy who has bought into a Ulster boots and all, has shown total loyalty and a guy who has a track record of giving 100%. I'll suggest he will work like a Trojan at becoming the best coach he can possibly be. After all that's where he wants his career to go after playing.

Irrespective, what would make anyone think BOD would be interested in coming to Ulster (if that was your intended suggestion)?Cockatrice wrote:Anyone think that Stringer would make a good backs coach or that BOD is wasted and would have made a great coach..
Notable that straight after the Ireland match yesterday the only criticism he could find of the Irish performance was to have a go at Paddy Jackson for kicking too much possession away - a criticism immediately dismissed by Joe (either intentionally or indirectly) when his first comment was on how well Paddy had controlled the game.
Come to think of it, Drico might want to come here just to sabotage us Nordies even further.

BOD could never be arissed to play at Ravers once a year never mind coach here. Could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times he came here to play.
Have considered the Pienaar/Muller chat as mere fancy, but now coming round to the thought of Pienaar signing on as a player/coach. What better way to secure the services of the man and really develop Cooney into an asset for Ireland. I'm sure D4 could live with Pienaar playing a limted number of games/minutes whilst assisting with the coaching - emphasising on kicking and halfback development.

That criticism by BOD was very obvious and unnecessary imo to single PJ out as the one kicking away too much possession. I feel bad that I dislike the guy so much for all the memories of some fantastic performances for Ireland and lions, but he takes smug to a whole new level.Cap'n Grumpy wrote:Irrespective, what would make anyone think BOD would be interested in coming to Ulster (if that was your intended suggestion)?Cockatrice wrote:Anyone think that Stringer would make a good backs coach or that BOD is wasted and would have made a great coach..

On topic, any assistant coach from a top Top 14 side would be a good signing for Ulster, more like that needed.

He is a snide wee ego on legs. He was a great player, but an obnoxious toerag as a human being.
Total antithesis of beagle actually.

Re: Jono Gibbes - New Head Coach
If we're to bring in the likes of Ruan or any other former player with no previous coaching experience it needs to be more in the form of a junior role than backs coach. Y'know either a position in the academy or a specialist role like Burt and whatever Collisions Coach really meant. Gibbes may suffice given how well he had Connacht's scrum going, but I've felt for quite some time we need a dedicated scrum coach like every other province.
