It's a very tricky one Solids, I'd love to agree with you but for me as a non-SF supporter I can completely understand why they are hunting for Mrs Fascist's head, she has been a triumphalist gloating sneering presence showing no respect whatsoever and having horrible little acolytes like the dreadful Givan saying in so many words that they don't like shiners but are forced to work with them. In many ways it is the languages used by the DUPers and Shinners that drive a man to drink and forsake all hope.solidarity wrote:Anybody think the time has come to end this consociational nonsense and simply go for a standard government and opposition? We would have to have a coalition and on the current figures, it couldn't be a purely sectarian arrangement (I think). A functioning opposition with the real hope of making it into government next time round would be invaluable. With the DUP and UUP being pretty conservative and SFand SDLP being broadly socialist, people might be tempted to vote on other than sectarian lines. At least it's worth a shot - it couldn't be any worse than the status quo.
Maybe if they made Irish the official language I wouldn't understand a word anyone spoke and would be more content.
Then again you are right that what's there is a nonsense and impractical, it's just that we don't do grown up politics so I fear we are condemned to repeat the current mess ad nauseum.
