Re: Leinster 16/17
A second yellow like wendyball is a red and neither offence was worthy of a red -- Nacewa was acting like a pri-k most of the afternoon but nobody gets sent off for that --if they did half the welsh team would be taking showers early.
Players getting held into a scrum ruck and maul overly long and jersey pulling at line outs etc has been part of the game so long if every player guilty of jersey pulling had been sent off -- there would be no game at all . It's annoying it happens but in every game you'll see players swinging arms to break someones hold . 99.9 % of the time refs ignore it because it happens so often because about 90% of the time it's effect is limited ; the fact remains players wouldn't do if they thought it did not give their team an edge .
A yellow card for pulling a jersey is extreme , and in the second instance no tackle was made he jumped into the player -- while going for the ball ??? and that is what a referee has to decide -- are you as referee 100 % sure he wasn't going for the ball -- as the law currently stands --- then if he was going for the ball it can't be a yellow and if the other player lands on his head - then a red despite the fact how he lands after he jumps is something you have little or no control of and despite the fact that both players can jump at each other with their boots pointing at their opponents body/face with immunity.
Jumping for a ball should be outlawed and the old fashioned mark restored (in and outside the 22 ) and awarded only if both feet are on the ground . The game was never meant to aerial except at a line out . Its basically dangerous play the player jumping puts himself in a place of danger and at the speed and weight of the players in pro rugby the danger is real.

It's a wonderful spectacle seeing guys taking the ball in the air but I agree it's too dangerous. And encourages aerial ping pong
Climb up onto the top of your house and start screaming: 'stand up for the Ulstermen, stand.......'
Re: Leinster 16/17
Nigel Owens should have asked the Bunker to check the grounding on the first try @ 3 minutes. Yato was not in possession of the ball at any time during the attempted grounding. He neither 'held' nor pressed down' on the ball.
The ball continued to roll forward (and checked only for a millisecond) as the back of his wrist / forearm touched/brushed over it. It then bounced on beyond his grasp to his right side.
Sloppy call.

Re: Leinster 16/17
The ball has to be on the ground when touched and the word is touched the manner of the touch is not important the big no no is losing the ball and the ball going forward then the call is a knock on . What the ball does after it is touched doesn't matter because after it is touched it is a dead ball.

For me the leinster lineout lost them the match yesterday. They couldn't win their own and they didn't even try to compete on Clermont's.
At every break the director seemed to show Toner's mug presumably on account of its visibility because he did naff all else. Strauss didn't exactly cover himself in glory either.

The manner of the touch is important apparently. IRB 22.1 (a) States that a player "grounds the ball BY holding the ball & touching the ground with it. Holding means holding in the hand or hands, or in the arm or arms".
Yako had igglepiggle control over the football. It was a millisecond flimsy wrist / forearm touch to the Front of the bouncing ball.
Bottom line it was no clear cut held grounding and Nigella coulda shoulda have referred it to the TMO. The End
Re: Leinster 16/17
I suggest you read 22 :4g a player in touch can score a try by grounding the ball in the opponents in goal area provided he is NOT HOLDING the ball
That is the ball only needs to grounded in the in goal area to score a try or to be made dead by the defending team
grounding occurs when a hand is contact with a ball in contact with the ground provided there has not been a prior knock on .
A knock on by the defending team is a 5 metre scrum to the attacking team a knock on by the attacking team is 5 metre scrum to the defending team .
I have always considered despite the knock on by an attacking team if the defending team touch down it should be 25 drop out and not a 5 metre scrum ( advantage law)

Frightening to see how their 3rds are taking Glasgow to the cleaners in the first half.
