O'Donnell and Lowry at 9 and 10. Well I can dream.
Soldiers who wanna be heroes number practically zero, but there are millions who wanna be civilians
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Is there an attitude problem with it?
Is there a refusal to play/attempt play to a script?
We all know talent is just part of the mix. Has there been UR contact and they’ve thought better of it, for one reason or another?

We're not in a position to be turning our noses up at anyone for being 'too individualistic!' How many times has the academy invested in what turned out to be a dud ... shipped of to Jersey or somewhere after serious time and money spent on them.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Unfortunately O'Donnell is playing in only position on a Rugby pitch for which the script is written for , out-halves have a degree of Latitude to call it as they see the same Latitude is not given to scrum -halves because the forwards are playing to roles defined by field position and the composition of the 3 man pod.
When in Possession is the only occasion YOUR playing to YOUR script when defending you are responding to THEIR script, some of it is legal and some of it is illegal, its the illegal which creates the opportunities for the backs.

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Well obviously ... we all know that in the history of the game no one has ever scored an entirely legal try.
Every single try ever scored has had some illegality that the blind man* with the whistle has missed.
* With misogyny still being rife in some rugby circles, it is taken as read by themuns that a female ref will have missed it. In my limited experience though, the female of the species is generally equal to, and often superior to, her male whistling colleagues. #JoyNeville.ref.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
It’s the little tardy release of the tackler or the impeding of an opposition player off the ball my captain but it is not the only means scoring in the game .
The other is the exploitation of a mistake or weakness of the opposition . In professional rugby mistakes are rare and weaknesses are often catered for eg non tackling out halves pushed out wide to the wings.

Then there's luck. I watched a programme on football last night that claimed that 47% (I think) of goals had a very significant amount of luck in them and all goals have some element. I guess that the figure for tries is higher.

ROD is evidently a talent who has been overlooked for whatever reasons at Ulster, however surely if he was seen as the top quality operator as some here say he is, surely other teams would have come knocking. Maybe the pros know more than we do.

A coach has no purpose if players have the freedom to Brainfart at will .

Did wonder that myself, even just a 2nd division team in England. Surely if ROD wants to make a profession out of rugby he would have a load of options, something doesn't seem right.nonplussed wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 12:25 pm ROD is evidently a talent who has been overlooked for whatever reasons at Ulster, however surely if he was seen as the top quality operator as some here say he is, surely other teams would have come knocking.
