Toulouse v ULSTER MoTM?

Post by fermain »

A poor first half littered by indiscipline and poor tackling allowed Toulouse a good start. Ulster only in with a remote chance due to missed kicks.
2nd half, much of the same; soft tackles and lack of physicality, Box kicks and follow up not working, Ulster scarcely looked like scoring although there was the (very) odd passage of decent play. Toulouse more than deserved their result.

After a promising start, our season faded to an end, but, who was your ultimate 2019/20 Ulster man of the match?

If only he was 20% taller and heavier! Had to give it to wee Mike Lowry for sheer guts and flashes of brilliance - even before he slotted in well to out half! He is a real talent - but........!
Hope is not a strategy.

Lowry for me. Played his heart out and showed guts and talent. Why is Burns the starting 10?

If only Lowry's physique was as big as his heart.

Went for lowry for his willingness to try things and play where he could. We can't ignore the elephant in the room about his size and ulster need to give him a run at 10 so that players can adapt to his style of play. Too often he was isolated with the ball and he doesn't have the physicality to fight in the tackle to buy the support some time. He needs to dictate our play not be on the end of it.

Lowry filling in for Burns and it not making a noticeable difference (both a dig at Burns and a compliment for Lowry). He made the try and put himself about though I have been awarding Ulster MoTM accolades for players just 'putting themselves about' for a while now.

Lowry for sure in a very weak field. Would like to see him get a run at 10 as we can't get him near the ball at 15 based on the last few games!
