Perspective of coaches

Post by Bobbievee »

Most RU coaches now sit high in th stands, surrounded by tv screens and analysts. I presume to have the birds eye perspective for a game which is largely about the use of space.
However, most soccer coaches sit at ground level ( altho also a game of the use of space) and shout and gulder at individual players incessantly.
Can anyone provide me with a rationale for this?

in football a team is dispersed over the pitch and the ball can go backwards and forwards etc but the big difference is the constant movement of players to try and disrupt a defence to make space . Football is more about the making of space by movement . Rugby space is made legally and illegally. frequently by set plays, whose use depends on the position on the pitch.

Similarly coaches in rugby are analysing different things on the screen -- line out , scrums rucks and mauls to ensure winning their own ball and trying to disrupt the opposition ball -- with messages to players conveyed by water carriers and medics if necessary and or subs.

The boys on the terrace relieve our coaching team of that responsibility.

I think it’s because the rugby coaches can’t get a great signal for their laptops in the dug out.
