There’ll be at least four Ulster Rugby season ticket holders in Amsterdam next week for the ODIs.

Sensational stuff. 299 from 50 would be a decent effort in a ODI never mind the 4th inns of a test.

1675 runs - 2nd highest in England and 8th highest in tests.

553 - 4th highest 1st inns total to lose a test

The 498 in 50 overs wasn’t a bad effort today.

Dunno if my neck is sore through sunburn or from watching the arc of the numerous sixes that were smacked out of the ground.

9 lost balls in the woods at 130 Euro a go apparently, hopefully they made it up in beer sales. Looked like it from the Sky coverage.

I can confirm that the UR contingent accounted for 32 pints of a very well known local lager.

They ran out of the large plastic cups but fortunately the beer itself did not run dry!

Indeed.

The hitting from Jos and Livi was obviously as good as you could ever hope to see. Brutal really.

I thought Malan played extremely well for his ton.

I heard that the Dutch were missing a few of their better players. Real shame if they can't get them for these big games. Teams like NL and Ireland need their big guns to have any chance of an upset and that's what will generate the most publicity and exposure.

Justin - did your liver tough it out to make it to today's game or were you and the rest of the ulster contingent wise enough to draw stumps after Friday's session?

We were there, although each Heineken is getting progressively harder to get down.

Strange day weather-wise today. Luckily, it warmed up for the fairly unremarkable conclusion.

Willey was probably the pick of the bowlers and Carse bowled sharply at times. Salt was again effective without being particularly pleasing to watch. Morgan looked entirely out of sorts.

Chris Pringle’s son turned out for them. So far as I can make out, his last game of cricket was actually against the Netherlands for a NZ XI in March when he dismissed the Dutch skipper (prior to replacing him in today’s match).

The wife and I have tickets for the third one, subject to any complications regarding this evening’s chicken vindaloo.

Looks like the serious money in cricket is in India. From Leadersinsport.com :
Lalit Modi certainly talked a confident game when I sat down with him in a snazzy London hotel back in 2008 and listened to him lay out, in some detail, his plan for the new city franchise-based cricket league in India.

The controversial founder and visionary behind the Indian Premier League has long left any official role with the Board of Control for Cricket in India, but even as he was holding forth over a pot of tea that morning he could surely not have believed the heights the league would scale within 15 short years.

Last week’s IPL media rights sales will generate US$6.2 billion for the period between 2023 and 2027, with Disney Star paying US$3 billion for the TV rights in India and Viacom18 securing domestic digital rights and TV and digital rights in the UK, South Africa and Australia/New Zealand for around the same amount. Times Internet secured rights in the Middle East and USA for just over US$26 million.

That places the IPL firmly at the top table of global sports properties: on a cost-per-game basis, the new deal puts the league only behind the NFL. By any measure, that is an extraordinary achievement in such a short space of time: no wonder the IPL model and various elements within it such as the player draft are now widely used – with varying levels of success – as a template far beyond cricket. In a decade and a half, the IPL has hit the sweet spot of sport, entertainment and big business. And all from a blank sheet of paper.

Plenty has happened since 2008, but, for all the controversy that engulfed him after overseeing the first few years of the IPL, Lalit Modi was, as it turns out, right on the money.

Indeed. Think Trent Bridge is his favourite ground but great display of skill and control to keep England in the game. They need to set India minimum about two hundred and Broad to have one of his days when he is peerless in the last innings.
He's just done it in the 2nd test.

A "five for" at the age of 39 yrs 14 days.

He's now the 3rd oldest pace bowler to take 5 wkts in a test innings.

1. Geoffrey Chubb 40y 84d (6/51 SA v Eng Manchester 5/7/1951)
2. Frank Laver 39y 231d (8/31 Aus v Eng Manchester 27/7/1909)
Up to number 2 in the list!
39y 335 days today.
The ghost of the late Geoffrey Chubb will be casting an anxious glance over it's shoulder.

This test cricket thing might just catch on with the public. Different gravy to the ODI stuff even if it's influence here cannot be denied.
