There are a few kicking abut Beaudan Barrett and Damian McKenzie aren't terrible. Stuart Hogg and Blair Kinghorn are the only two northern hemisphere I can think of that do it at international level when needed.allezlesverres wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 10:29 am Its the 10/15 one that is more of a curse than a blessing because the positions are just so different you can't realistically hope to be world class at both, not to mention 10 is basically the most visible position so your performance in that jersey has to be spot on, there's very little room for errors.

Furbank has done it for England.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
So 9 of the 18 forwards selected for the Ireland U20 squad for the summer series tournament are from Ulster.

Given the age profile of some of our young talented backs, I'd quite happily see no backs come through for the next 5 seasons if we started to produce a similar quality of forward as Baloucoune, Hume, Lowry, Doak, McIlroy, Stockdale, Moore et al
A world class Ulster born out half coming through would be nice.

Let’s see how many kick on. Ulster are experts at producing u20 internationals who disappear.

Age grade squads in training last week, all looking strong from what I’ve heard. Hopefully an interpro championship can be won
Re: Any word on the Academy?
12 Ireland internationals with more in camps or nts programmes. Not that poor
Re: Any word on the Academy?
You need a crop of backs about every 3 years and forwards every 4 --
it the nature of the positions -- backs mature sooner but injury can affect their pace and therefor they retire sooner -- and yes there are the odd one or two who make it through to their mid 30s anything beyond that and they are being shielded eg BoD and Sexton both only playing in crucial games -- European games -- big provincials and Internationals -- about 10 -15 games a season.
Pace is not the greatest requirement of a forward and therefor while they mature later they tend to have a longer shelf life and therefor a lower turnover in forwards than backs.
Because backs tend to lighter and faster they also get injured more often and their injuries result in being unable to play for longer thus a need for players who can play a number of positions . eg full back /out half --scrumhalf/out half, centre/wing/full back etc every squad needs it's " jack of all trades ' in the backs

Within this carapace of skepticism there lives an optimist

No Charlie Irvine is a surprise, suppose he has another season to make it.
Wilson confirmed to be u20 this season.
