Stewart was never going to go if all the others were deemed fit. Stockdale wasn't picked to play so farrells mind made up on him also. McCloskey will still go most likely.

Herring cemented his place, Stu did well but will be perhaps just outside the final squad. Hendy should be safe enough, TOT did fine and may just make the squad depending on the fitness of others. Jacob and Tom S will be spectators albeit potential cover for injuries.
Hope is not a strategy.

Jacob will not be going. His confidence has been shot ever since Farrell picked him at 15 for Ireland. He owes neither the Irish fans( some of the abuse has been outrageous) or Farrell any favours. I think he should step away from international rugby and concentrate on his Provincial career. We still value him.

Ringrose coming on to the wing bodes well for big stu. He has played in the majority of irelands last dozen games and has learned that all he is required to do is the basics. Ringrose covering wing means 4 centres can go especially as henshaws form and fitness is questionable.
England and Ireland both found out today the perils of playing a lower ranked team who relish to chance to go toe to toe, while they have one eye on the tournament. NZ showed last night what happens when a team isn't quite switched on from the start.

Still reckon it’s Prendergast or Stu so Ringpiece remains a break glass wing option either way.

Earls won’t get left out. Sexton picked him months ago.

I thought Stockdale had a sound game- in a match where the Referee went missing allowing the weather to create the play breaks rather than penalties.

The ball was wet and slippy and virtually uncontrollable in a tackle thus a high number of knock-ons.

Most of Irelands problems were created by the selection in the forwards --- second choice props with a forth choice hooker and only one recognised experienced jumper ( Henderson ) Beirne is not normally a line out jumper Doris and Braid don't have a great deal of experience . The inexperienced mix then had to content with a wet ball and a dis- interested referee .

The weather basically ruined the match -- why because the recycle was slow -- players were getting man and ball a formula guaranteed to create injuries -- which players wished to avoid when playing against what many might consider inferior opposition with more to play for.
Within this carapace of skepticism there lives an optimist

Agree apart from on a personal level he'd be better away from IRFU and UR entirely. Take a pay day in France and get a good psychologist/ tackle coach. The southern abuse has been shocking. He looks mentally fragile, the roots of which started with the dropped ball over the try line that would've probably beaten Leinster in the HEC, followed by career threatening injury, which many in ROI conveniently forget about. JS was never a great tackler- poor technique, but I wonder did IRFU/ UR think his attacking form compensated at the time when he was on fire and confident? Was he ever taken aside and worked on with his technical flaws?

I fear we could end up with Hendy and Rob as our only representatives. Of course that would give us a bit of a leg up in the league, so I'm not arguing.

A stupid management decision to tell them before the match

Good to see more Ulstermen in there than I thought there'd be.
Did Healy's injury let O'Toole in?
Really happy for young Tom but Healy will be a big loss, not least for his versatility.
