Before you indulge in further self fluffery, Aki has been given latitude well beyond his overall ability and disciplinary record that wouldnt be indulged with most other Ireland players where similar squad depth exists. Henshaw has a better skill set, as does Stu ( including a deft kicking game.) Aki is still a card waiting to happen imo. Given a fully fit centre squad to pick from, Henshaw and Ringrose every time. All the BS about Stu can only play 12, well Aki can't play anywhere else either.
Ringrose is by far Irelands best 13. Hume ( or anyone else) nowhere near. I'd say 13 is the bigger conudrum without similar depth to 12. Anyone of Aki, Henshaw or McCloskey show little difference in quality when starting imo. Aki has however hit form at the right time. With Henshaw perpetually injured, McCloskey was always the correct squad option tor the critical 12 slot that needs a specialist rather than a generalist. Henshaw is also a better12 than 13.

Pretty much what I was going to say. Ringpiece and the Galway shagger have been afforded runs of 50+ games to reach this level

Are England the worst team ever to top a RWC pool?

Great stuff by Portugal but I bet Eddie was raging at the end.

I was focussing on the performance in the 4 pool games. Irrespective of the history, I think Aki and Ringrose were pretty impressive. Simple as that. Would some other pairing have been as good?? We will never know.

Apparently McCloskey's missus has been getting pelters on social media for taking the bairn to the match although the minidozer was sporting noise cancelling headphones and lived up to his sobriquet by sleeping through the entirety.

As for England given the draw and their style of play they could win the Cup.

England always have a strong defence ,a goal kicker and that rub of liniment to score a drop goal at the right time

Not the combination to write off. ( but one which is hard to like )
