Re: URC 2022/23 - Other Sides
Some interesting discussion on Twitter about central contracts being disproportionately awarded to Leinster players, and how this feeds into a cycle of them not having to pay for their best players, freeing up huge sums to pay for the likes of Snyman, which in turn breeds success, while other provinces have only 3 CCs between them. Thoughts?

Cheers Neil, saw someone say 3 CCs and didn't verify myself!Neill_M wrote:From X / Twittershamalicious wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 3:28 pm Some interesting discussion on Twitter about central contracts being disproportionately awarded to Leinster players, and how this feeds into a cycle of them not having to pay for their best players, freeing up huge sums to pay for the likes of Snyman, which in turn breeds success, while other provinces have only 3 CCs between them. Re: URC 2022/23 - Other Sides
A bit of a risk in signing him due to his injury profile. But Leinster have the cash.
I don't think Munster can have any qualms. The rumour floating around is Joey is heading to Bordeaux which is another risky signing.
If Joey goes, brace yourself for a Munster raid on the Leinster stock of 10's. Or perhaps they will try to bring Flannery home. I think Flannery is in year one of a 2 year deal which may deter them.

Leinster have secured RG Snyman on a one-year contract and it is unlikely that the IRFU will sanction an extension.
The province today announced that they'd landed the double World Cup winner from Munster in a spectacular transfer coup.
They didn't stipulate the duration of the deal which is believed to be worth €500,000, but the Irish Independent understands it will run for the 2024/25 season.
It is understood that Leinster will be restricted in how much they can play Snyman who is regarded as one of the most impactful locks in the world and will be competing with Joe McCarthy, Ryan Baird, James Ryan and Ross Molony when he replaces his compatriot Jason Jenkins.

Re: URC 2022/23 - Other Sides
Munster were restricted in how much they could play Snyman too…
What’s changing in another year to prevent him signing another contract with Leinster?

Re: URC 2022/23 - Other Sides
How are the likes of Lowe, JGP and Sheahan not on these contracts but Murray and Henderson are?
Leinster still "paying" for Healy, Sheahan, Kelleher, Conan, JGP, Byrne, Lowe, all of whom would make the Ireland match day 23.
They haven't brought in many superstar NIQ's recently compared to ulster and in particular munster .

Re: URC 2022/23 - Other Sides
Timing eg DS had 5 caps when his new Leinster contract in March ‘22 was announced, coupled, arguably, with a degree of generosity regarding Murray and Hendy.
Humph needs to have a think about this kind of stuff.
I don’t see why the Provinces are effectively forced to keep journeymen who have no prospect of playing for Ireland when, for instance, they could have brought in some of the NIQ lads from the bust clubs in England who have done so much to improve the surviving clubs in the Prem.
