Footy with a sperical ball has only relatively recently mastered when the ball crosses the goal line.
How would we know when a large egg has touched the ground, anywhere in goal, and only if in contact with a player of one team not t'other?
I suggest the "Mark 1 Eyeball". Tried and tested and only occasionally found wanting, usually when something gets in the way.

AT last England have a Captain who looks as stupid as the ref ( cheap shot)
The English game was so like the "Eton Wall" game as both sides edged across the pitch with one yard carries due to the (SA) rush defence.
Which has its roots in the fact that ref generally referees from the centre looking towards the touchline and touch judges fail to call off side because they two are following the ball rather than the defensive line of the backs ( they are only human .)
Thus a rush defence will only be called off side about twice a game despite the fact that it maybe offside 75% of the time .
It kills a flat line attack and requires quick passing if playing as a deep back line .
The (SA) defence is killing the game.

A smart ball with smart grass. It might counteract a stupid ref.
Thought Larmour was our worst player, came on and seemed to make mistake after mistake. Nash appears to have taken his opportunity, but after him and Lowe there aren't many wingers putting their hands up. Also thought Byrne was poor when he came on.
The Ulster guys played pretty well, if understated roles. McCloskey has much better distribution skills than probably any other centre Ireland has, had a really good game.
