He’s certainly well rated as a coach in the Ulster/Irish system. Likewise Jonny Graham.

Strange the replacement wasn’t mentioned yesterday by Varadkar - anyway, Blackett my choice, and for me McNamaras banned.

Wish Dan well but this is long overdue. Perhaps Petrie not getting the SRU job has pushed on as the sword needs to fall somewhere. The last 2 years have been absolutely brutal but before that he had us playing great stuff. He also had a serious dose of bad luck ... Stockdale dropping that ball inches before touching it down cost us an absolute classic win over Leinster at the Aviva. Robbed by a corrupt TMO in the away match v Stormers meant we had to go back there for a SF in which we lost in the most brutal fashion ... an 84th min try and a kick that may or may not have went over. That cost us a home final. Then a 50:49 loss over two legs to Toulouse. Toulouse scoring late on when we had two men down on the ground injured in which they attacked the space. That cost us a home route to the final. People will say you make your own luck and that is true, but that was the worst imaginable. He could well have been sitting here an Ulster legend, but it has been a downward spiral from Cape Town and the standard of play this last 2 years has been horrific. Let's see what Soper can do for the rest of the season if he somehow gets us playing with a bit of pace, power and precision then you never know.

For clarity on this, there's no gloating- relief all round and the knowledge that the real work begins for 2 years lost. It's going to get worse before it gets better, but that's the collateral for this mess. We haven't bottomed out

Not surprised by this news, he had been there too long and as per my stats earlier in the thread things were on the slide last season and most definitely this season.

Interesting to see if if we see a similar "new manager bounce" as from football, when a coach is fired and the same players who couldn't beat eggs magically raise their games once the old coach is gone.

Doesn’t seem to happen as much these days and certainly not in the Championship this season.

Yep, we’ve certainly blown some massive opportunities in the last couple of years, having done a lot of the hard work in getting there.

Getting those opportunities again in the near to medium term, at least, is going to be the problem now, irrespective of who the coach is.

Maybe UR could tap Leo for a few million Euros. Supporting a 9 county UIster was his rational behind the A5 cash

 great sense of relief. Latest rumour is Soper as head coach with Solomons as assistant. (Presumably temporary measure). Also?????Gareth Steenson as backs coach?????

Seems that Solomons was appointed as a Director in John Andress’ business in the last year or so.

No potential conflict of interest there then…!
