On the topic of scrum halves, is Soper’s son not a leaver this year? He has played underage representative rugby?
Not that that is a measure of quality but if he was a leaver surely he’s worth a punt

Maybe also our new regime will move away from the " they will be better when they are older........." theory. If not good enough at 20/21/22 they are not going to be good enough. Look at the number of young out halves starting to populate the English Premier.

Weird that Leinster seem to be taking another centre who was behind both at Irish u20 level
Re: Any word on the Academy?
thats not confirmed, that player was told he might get an offer depending on how he performs at the JWC.ljsulster wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 3:58 pmI get what you’re saying but if they are better than what we have (which they are) then you take them no problem.UlsterAreBrill wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 2:11 pmRegardless of how good they are, more Leinster cast offs is frustratingkingofthehill wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 12:44 pm Murphy and de Klerk are quality. Re: Any word on the Academy?
I couldn't care less if they're from Leinster. The schools system in Ulster is failing, especially at the senior schools level, compared to the South due to lack of investment.ljsulster wrote:I get what you’re saying but if they are better than what we have (which they are) then you take them no problem.UlsterAreBrill wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 2:11 pmRegardless of how good they are, more Leinster cast offs is frustratingkingofthehill wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 12:44 pm Murphy and de Klerk are quality. Teaching and coaching positions are unattractive without proper compensation. In the South, teachers who also coach can earn over 100k, whereas in the North, they're lucky to make 45-50k. Another reason why the top coaches in the South don’t want to move onto professional gigs as they would be taking a pay cut and it’s not permanent.
Eliminating NIQs and allocating more funding to grassroots and schools is crucial. Ireland boasts many talented players who aren't given enough opportunities mainly because they choose to look good in a Leinster Tracksuit top in the stands rather than play. This has to stop.
Additionally, there's an overabundance of contracts given to mediocre professionals, reduce the amount of contracts and move the players about whether they like it or not.
The Irish system currently is broken, we failed to get past the quarter finals again against arguably the worst All black side in history but yet everyone still thinks the system is good.
