Well done Rhys!!!
Looks like he had every reason to have all that confidence.
And to add icing to the cake, Max Whitlock didn't get a medal.
The lad from Ards done good!

I assume some homecoming celebrations are being planned for all NI based medal winners.
What is it now? 4 Gold a Silver and 2 Bronze?
The way things are going, they're going to need a bigger bus!

Ulster - 2 golds and a bronze
Rest of Ireland - 1 gold and 2 bronzes.
For the UK
NI - 2 golds, a silver and 2 bronzes.
Punching way above our weight. Both countries will be fighting to keep us!

The BBC do a disservice to NI licence payers by not giving more prominence to our athletes in green. Some don't even have the option of competing for GB because of the governance of their sports such as boxing and rugby.solidarity wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 5:41 pmAs we might have guessed, all the BBC commentary is about 'Max Whitlock's heritage', 'the end of an era', etc etc etc.

I like the story about the 2 Irish rowers who arrived back in Dublin with their gold medals and the intention of getting the bus back to Cork until some stranger they met gave them a lift.

The speed climbing defies belief

Re: Where roughly is the Olympic Torch now mate?
Have to say, I was rivetted with the speed climbing and the rock climbing. Who'd have guessed?
I retired three years ago so this was my first post-work Olympics. I've watched more of this Olympics than the past thirty years put together and enjoyed it more than I expected. Really enjoy the long distance running. Looking forward to the 3,000m steeplechace.
Re: Where roughly is the Olympic Torch now mate?
Agreed. If anyone had said to me a few weeks ago that I would be up out of my chair roaring on a rock climber................!!

It makes more sense than Olympic Golf or Tennis. Corinthians in a way the IOC have long since prostituted.
Multi millionaires or a Turkish shooter with his own glasses, squint and t-shirt? Easy one.
That's why sevens is perfect.
And I so wanted Serbia to chin US - sadly close but not to be.

Re: Where roughly is the Olympic Torch now mate?
GB have a decent medal haul this time but have struggled to turn silver and bronze into gold, not that you'd know it listening to the English media. Shaping up to be their worst haul since 2004.
Interestingly, if Wiffen and McClenaghan had declared for GB, they would now be 4th in the medal table rather than 6th

I thought McClenaghan was cut/ lost sponsorship by GB years ago? Hence why he declared for Ireland. It's entirely possible I'm wrong
