Looks like it will be offically declared about 9 o'clock tonight.

Michael D Higgins 9th President of Ireland.

Born in Limerick, raised in Clare. You can't get too much better than that.

Don't forget Socialist Shan  Better that that a FF money-grabber. A debt of thanks appears due to Marty & SF for putting a spoke in the bag-man's wheel

And this is partly what it was about. Testing the water to see how SF are doing nationwide.
That would be either islandwide or "nationwide" Shan
There'll be none of your jingoistic Nationalist rhetoric on this message board me boy! :oman:

PS. is Micheál D. Ó hUigínn or MDH as I call him at social events, a suitable candidate for the AHOHT?

Mmm I should have known you'd spot that devious attempt by me Snipe. :D

I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean by AHOHT. I probably should know but I can't quite figure it out.

I'm just surprised that in Mondays "Debate" our wee Marty didnt throw at Michael Daniel Higgins the fact that at UCG Higgins was a member of Fianna Fail.

People who see the light and leave behind their dastardly ways should always be given much support as Michael D gets. I'm sure Marty understands this concept quite well.

Quite right Snipe. I should have spotted it and I agree he is quite entitled to this honour. His Galway supporters mightn't like it though. :)

It would be great to see him give some vocal support to Connacht Rugby also. President McAleese has turned up for the premier experience of Munster v Leinster games. It would be good if President Higgins could turn out for the smaller brother of a Connacht v Ulster game :stir: or even get him there for their maiden voyage in the H Cup.*

* I'm not normally into Presidents turning up at sporting events but it would be nice to see one of Ireland's VIP's supporting Connacht rather than hanging on the coat-tails of Munster.

Agreed. Marty did his bit and he can go back to his job with his head high, especially if he finishes third overall which would probably be as good as they could have hoped for.

He ruffled a few establishment feathers and ultimately gave Gallagher's campaign the bullet it deserved. In this little mini Ulster Championship Derry beat Cavan by a few goals.

MickyD looks to have cleaned up and when you look at the rest of the langers in for the job he is probably the most like a statesman anyway, ok a haircut might help
Mary looked the part in the job and lets be honest about it,it is a look the part and talk the part at gatherings, she will be a tough act to follow.

He has an impossible job. Mary I was a class act and after a shaky start, Mary II kept the upward trend going. :salut: :salut:
I had my doubts, but she did a magnificent job.......most of the time.

Thought Bull might have been an Antediluvian Bruffalo - see what A'did thar.

Anyway, time there was a bloke back in the Aras. On a day when it has been announced that Betty's family will no longer favour males for succession this somewhat redresses the male/female balance. Mind you in my long years there has never been a King of the British Empire.

MDH has decided to try to win a second term. Wonder if any Ulsterfolk will take him on this time.
