You've got to love GOP, their candidate for the Senate, ex-Judge Roy Moore, stands accused by approx 30 young ladies & specifically 4 who have gone on the record publicly that he sexually assaulted them when they were minors (one of the 4 was 14) but the GOP in Alabama are standing by their man despite nationally the leadership wanting him shitcanned.
More bizarrely a survey in which 58% described themselves as "evangelical christians" had an alarming 28% saying the accusations would make them more likely to vote for him, whilst 33% said it would make no difference to their vote.
Moore was a judge and in a case in 2002 he gave custody of 3 children to the father who had molested them all rather than to the mother who had discovered she rather fancied a bit of rugmunching. Effectively a homosexual relationship was worse than a child abusing relationship for the kids.
“The effect of such a lifestyle upon children must not be ignored, and the lifestyle should never be tolerated,” Mr Moore wrote in a 2002. “The common law designates homosexuality as an inherent evil, and if a person openly engages in such a practice, that fact alone would render him or her an unfit parent.”
Having enjoyed America on several occasions and met really decent people, I find it strange to process thinking like that - being gay is worse than child abuse - I can think of no reason they should think this way other than their exposure to ultra-conservative evangelical Christian influence.
Clearly, an insidious influence if it produces such warped thinking. I do wonder what Jesus of Nazareth might make of it were he alive today .............. then again he'd probably be all for it, given he advocates stoning weemin for wearing trousers. I can't help thinking he had envisaged fat birds in leggings or shell suits, but even that is a tad harsh in my opinion. Then again, I'm not the Messiah.
“Take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus,” Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler told The Washington Examiner. “There's just nothing immoral or illegal here. Maybe just a little bit unusual.”
