no aaron I am not giving up on anything but as I understand it football and rugby are played & watched by both sides of the community and both Glentoran and Ulster do not pick on grounds of religion.
Rather simplistic I know but none the less factual and for the record it was not me that muted the idea of both clubs sharing a ground in East Belfast.

That said, I am interested to know - what did you want to achieve by posting the question?

CT possibly because the posts aredifferent as are the markings on the pitch if one game is played on Friday night and a another on the Saturday then there is little time for the ground staff to make the changes necessary also a rugby match on Friday could leave the groung in a terrible condition for the footballers on a Saturday
It sounds good in theory but harder to achieve in practice and then there are the difficulties associated with ownership of the ground etc
Anyone associated with Belfast Harlequins can tell you it was hard enough to reach agreement between two clubs playing the same sports never mind two different sports and professional teams. one affiliated to IRFU and the other IFA
A dream marriage for the legal profession

2B or not 2B that is the question ?
There are lots of examples of ground shares: LI/Reading at Madejski, Wasps/Wycombe at Causeway Stadium, Ospreys/Swansea City at the Liberty, Saracens/Watford at Vicarage Road, Glasgow/Partick at Firhill...bogboy wrote:

Sure co-ordination and planning is needed but it is hardly something that has never been done before...

Never said it hadn't been done
But there are alot of imponderables
YM sharing pitches at an Amateur level is not the same as professional level
At this time with Ravenhill Ulster Rugby don't have to make a committment to a shared venue
Necessity is the mother of such commitments

OK as a further thought on the subject
Let me pose the big silly questions
How would such a proposal benefit Ulster Rugby ?
How would it benefit the IRFU?
How would the building of a shared Stadium be financed ?
When considering your answers remember Ravenhill is owned by the IRFU and is for the Ulster Branch of IRFU it is not just the venue for Ulster Rugby
thus every Club and School that is affilated to the Ulster Branch has a vested interest in Ravenhill.

Would you behave yourself aarons.aarons wrote:so we're giving up on the idea of a cross-community stadium completely?Cockatrice wrote:Out of interest how many people would have supported a joint stadium in East Belfast between Ulster and Glentoran? at a guess say up 15,000-20,000 seater.

I see nobody has answer the big sillys
What benefit would it be to IRFU ?
What benefit would it be to the ULSTER BRANCH ?
If you come up with a positive answer I'll be most surprised
Note I not saying Ulster Rugby could not take advantage of a 20K seater Stadium but share one? Finance the building? share the running costs? why?
