McBurney was the same year at Ryan the 2nd row if memory serves, how many forwards have we got playing for Ireland developed by the academy? It has improved undoubtedly from 5-10 years ago, but there aren't a lot of those that are Ireland fixtures yet. How much is the performance of the academy and how much is the performance of the senior coaches could be asked, but don't feel the academy is performing amazingly well just yet.Kofi Annan wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 9:12 pmYou know it takes more than a year to develop players eh! I am confused on the not developing forwards ffs , O’ Toole, O,Sullivan, Izzy, Rae Brothers , McBurney, Andrews, Kane, Jones, McCann, Reid with three or four more to break through , trust McFarland in what way ?Lurgan Lad wrote: ↑Sat Mar 20, 2021 7:50 pm Early in his tenure there were a few that didn't rate Campbell, and now that we are performing reasonably well it is easy to make the argument that he hasn't developed enough forwards. The counter is we appear to be developing loads of quality backs. I guess given I'm not in the know at all I'm going to trust McFarland and take it that this will be a positive for us.

Campbell is an Ealing boy, went to grammar schoold just 3-4 miles from the ground, no doubt has links there and extended family in the area.

A global pandemic makes the heart long for home and to be close to family. Reckon Alby and faddes will be next to be announced.

Well I remember him talking about building asystem which depend upon him or Willie Anderson being there. He did a great job bringing players through, hopefully his replacement builds on this. Willie Falloon maybe?
Former Ulster and Ireland scrum-half, Campbell, was appointed Academy Manager in 2015 following two years as Elite Performance Development Officer and working as the Ulster Academy’s Backs Specialist.
During his time leading the Ulster Academy programme, graduates have included the likes of Rob Baloucoune, James Hume, Michael Lowry, Rob Lyttle, Stewart Moore, Jacob Stockdale, Eric O’Sullivan, Nick Timoney and Tom O’Toole, with a number of current Academy players also featuring for the senior team this season.
On his time at the province, Kieran Campbell said:
“The last six years has been a great journey in developing a pathway for Ulster’s young talent. I have been fortunate to lead the Ulster Academy, to support the development of young men in reaching their potential as rugby players, and people, and I am delighted that many are now realising their potential and performing with Ulster.
“I have relished the challenge of my role with Ulster as Academy Manager, and with Ireland U20s, however, I believe the time is right for me to now step into a new challenge and I’m excited for what lies ahead.
“I wish the province every success going forward. Ulster has been a huge part of my family’s and my life both as a player and coach, and we will leave with many great memories and friends.”
Bryn Cunningham, Head of Rugby Operations and Recruitment, added: “There is no doubt that Kieran leaves behind a lasting legacy given the outstanding contribution he has made to rugby in the province, and across Ireland, over the past six years.
“Building a pathway for young Ulster talent to transition from the domestic game into life as a professional has been a key focus for us as a club for the past number of years, and it is through Kieran’s leadership and stewardship of our Academy that this has been possible for many of our senior players.
“We wish him the very best for this next chapter and thank him for everything he has given to the province.”

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Think this was the first time I have actually SEEN the system working; five left or retired replaced by five from the Academy replaced by seven from the sub-Academy. We owe our thanks to Campbell and will miss his knowledge.
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Andy Skehan. He's got the blueprint. Roll it out across Ulster.

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Don't know. Heard they were playing a half against different sides.
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Contract situation has been excellently handled. We are however losing at least seven of the current Academy to Development or leaving; any idea of who will be promoted to the Academy for next season?

Egan TH prop
Charlie Ward[?] lock
Sheridan Lock/blindside
McKee scrum half
Humph jr Outhalf
Postlethwaite centre/wing
Ben Moxham centre/wing
maybe Conor McMenamin [lock]?

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Thanks although I think Moxham may be up for development contract?
