Let’s start thinking outside the box here. That occasion at Páirc Uí Chaoimh last autumn was unbelievable and it’s highly likely they wouldn’t have went on to win the league considering that that one win entirely turned their season around. Get the finger out UR.

Would you be happy with The Ireland U20 games ? Would you and 5/6k others go watch them ?

Will touring or representative teams want to play on a plastic pitch? I would say absolutely not.
Oh dear! Will injuries increase? Should we train somewhere else? Will our S and C team be up to the task? Will we be able to get a team out? Was all this considered in the application?
We trained on 3G at newforge at times.

Theres also a synthetic pitch right behind the family stand belonging to Aquinas School that Ulster use.

I've used it myself to warm up a couple of times before playing at Ravenhill. Amateur cup games.

As an aside Ulster should have been able to cite this as a precedent in the area to have their own passed. It's literally 25-30 metres from the current pitch.

Yup, Ulster players have been training on the Aquinas 3G pitch every week for years, also the 3G Pitch at Queens, Indoor 3G at Jordanstown, the Ireland squad train on 3G at the HPC in Blanchardstown - the players are well used to it.

This article probably provides the most up to date position on the use of 3G Pitches, the possible use of organic infills, and the future provision of 4G Surfaces:

https://sapca.org.uk/guide/position-sta ... g-pitches/
https://sapca.org.uk/wp-content/uploads ... ril-23.pdf

Provided Ulster lay a good quality shockpad under the 3g carpet, there is no reason they can't remove the rubber crumbs and replace with an Organic alternative down the line when they have been more suitably tested. Alternatively - should the 4G Pitches be deemed suitable by World Rugby by the time any EU ban on microplastics comes in then Ulster could replace the carpet with a 4G surface to replace the old 3G Surface - the existing drainage and shock pad would remain in situ and just the carpet would be replaced.

Sorry but Brexit means we don't have to listen them EU bureaucrats. We can be exposed to the carcinogenic rubber infill if we want to.

The Commission proposed a six-year transition period before the new restriction becomes effective, although the timing for it to become law has not yet been made clear. Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the regulatory framework for these matters now sits at a UK level (except for Northern Ireland, which will continue to follow EU REACH requirements

They also play matches on them in the league… still I think they are genuinely not liked by players and do appear to increase injuries when rugby is played on them.. reading an article from University of Northampton..

World Rugby and FIFA approve both organic and rubber but rubber is the cheapest. From what I heard this is all about the concerts and extra money streams…

Talking to some involved seems questions need to be asked if BCC who determined it didn’t need an environmental impact assessment due to the development being under the criteria when in fact no one knew the size as it wasn’t provided…

And like all other 3G pitches with rubber crumb infill will have. Ti. E replaced with organic…

Schools can hardly afford to survive never mind the huge cost of changing refill… if these pitches have t been maintained it means anyone injuried on them has a litigation case if they had been injuried

Ulster Rugby in talks to stage historic pre-season game at GAA ground this autumn
Ulster Rugby have explored the possibility of staging a fixture at a GAA ground this autumn, the Belfast Telegraph understands.

The move would represent an historic first for the northern province.

With their Ravenhill pitch currently being replaced with an artificial surface, it is believed Ulster Rugby bosses have sounded out their GAA counterparts with a view to staging a pre-season friendly, expected to be against Glasgow, in October.

Home grounds of Armagh and Derry would be among the possibilities with both boasting capacities similar to that of Ravenhill.

Ulster have never staged a game at a GAA ground, something that for decades would have been prohibited by the GAA’s Rule 42.

That rule, which stated that “grounds controlled by Association units shall not be used or permitted to be used, for horse racing, greyhound racing, or for field games other than those sanctioned by Central Council,” was altered in 2005 in light of the impending redevelopment of the Aviva Stadium.
Ireland Rugby, as well as the Republic of Ireland football team, used Croke Park for home matches between 2007 and 2010 while their home ground was being rebuilt.

Munster, meanwhile, played South Africa ‘A’ at Páirc Uí Chaoimh last November and will line out at the Cork venue again against the Crusaders next year.

There are, however, a number of logistical hurdles that need cleared to see Ulster’s own mooted plan come to fruition with costing thought to be chief among them.

Ulster’s URC season begins away to Zebre on October 21, considerably later than usual given the World Cup takes place in France between September 8 and October 28.

Their first home game comes against the Bulls eight days later by which stage it is expected that their home ground will be ready.

At present Dan McFarland’s side have confirmed only one friendly, a trip to face Benetton in Italy on September 30.

Ulster Rugby were contacted for comment.

Was Windsor not available? :duck:
Why not GAA ground in Cavan, Monaghan or Donegal since this part of Southern Ulster rarely sees anything of UR. Cavan and Virginia are great wee clubs.
