I await Baggy's response but can't resist!

Sound does not travel in a vacuum so no, it wouldn't be heard. That of course presumes that the farter was unprotected by a space suit and was exposed to the full vacuum of space rather than in a space suit or a capsule.

With regard to the possibility of farting, it is essentially the expelling of gas from a closed system. Given that it's effectively a moving of gas from a higher pressure area to a lower pressure area there is no theoretical barrier.

Lastly, the odour issue. It would be "possible" to smell it but only in high density. Given the vacuum, coldness of space, the fact that you couldn't breath and the rapid dispersal in a weightless vacuum, it's unlikely that you would.

Boy it's awful not having Ulster Rugby. >ESAD
in space, no-one can hear you fart ... that's from a fillum (probably)

Supplementary question: why do farts not smell on planes?

Qualification required, inside or outside the spacecraft? Suited & booted or not?

That apart, LastNight appears to have covered the science.

They don't look right at all.

This is more like it. Big lumps of sugar and so dry it's impossible to eat without a big mug o' Tay.

Haven't had a Paris bun since the bread man retired in 98.

Three white pan, packet o tatty bread and either Paris buns or Snowballs was the usual order.

If there are 6 million bicycles in Beijing, why do the Chinese never win the Tour de France?
