Supposing is good, but finding out is better.

I think I was stood out in 1974. Miss Moore ran a tight classroom.

Piutau could well be a good to great signing for Ulster but unless Ulster beef up the pack considerably, he won't make a lot of difference, the old adage is true, "FORWARDS win games backs decide by how much" of all our backrow forwards only Henderson is of sufficient standard and age, Chad is quality but is getting no younger, Wilson's best days are behind him and the rest well I'll not go there.

What if during next season Payne cemented his position as the new BOD, McCloskey developed into an emerging Irish centre, Olding came back and proved he is the outstanding Irish Centre for the next 4 years, Trimble slips back in and has the season he had before his toe injury, Tommy regains the form that made him a Lions starter, Gilroy proved he can't be left out of the side and Ludik raises his game to a level previously not seen.

All we are missing then is Charlie Boy but unfortunately we have to wait yet another season for that missing link to fall into place… all the time our outstanding back row with back up options that make other PRO12 outfits jealous hold on just wishing they had a set of backs that could win games by bigger margins… ahh if only Carlsberg did player recruitment.

So Cockers I think what you're saying is that the pack takes care of itself but we really need a backup fullback, like the final card in the deck so to speak?

No what he is saying is with 7 backs already playing to the required standard across 5 positions, Charlie boy isn't even needed, unless to be water boy .....

..... and he hasn't even mentioned this season's supporters' player of the season, Darren Cave who could probably fill a bench space if someone gets injured or needs a rest.

Since the first burst of disbelieving enthusiasm, I haven't been following this story closely enough; am I getting this right? Charlie has been signed but won't arrive until this time next year. In the meantime he won't be able to play in NZ. Does that mean he has to take a year out of rugby? Maybe I'm just getting the wrong end of the stick. If so, what is the real situation?

It's all a cunning ploy by Bryn. In the recent past we have signed players who get injured just before or immediately after arriving in Ulster and have to miss out for a year (give or take a month or 6).

This way we get his rehab for the injury he has yet to incur, or may have already incurred, out of the way before he comes here.

Genius, sheer genius. Sometimes you just have to stand, open mouthed, in awe of the forward planning that is Ulster Rugby. So is Ferris really just being rested and Dr Dave gone too Glaws to spy out the best buys for a raid on the English player pool? It all falls into place. Why didn't I see it? :duh:

Would have been better spending the supposed £500K on Vermeulen or someone of similar standard, maybe they have and it's just not announced yet but I very much doubt it.
