I really like Bernard Cornwell his books are a great holiday read and I love the way they are linked to history. The Grail quest trilogy (there are actually four books now or five if you include Azincourt) are particularly good.

The late Tom Clancy wrote some belters but one that is often forgotten is 'Red Storm Rising' about a third world war, a bit dated now but still an excellent read and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you like crime thrillers the wife swears by the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell.

If you are looking for something more highbrow try Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, something to think about!

After all of the publicity surrounding the movie, I made the logical decision to read The Hunger Games. Actually very pleasantly surprised. Despite a few gaffes in the prose and the fact that they're written for "young adults", they're a decent read. Hell of a lot more interesting and disturbing than most dystopian literature, if I'm honest.

Working my way through the Myron Bolitar books of Harlan Coben. Good stories and characters. Crime- solving with a difference. Need to be read in sequence.

Don't know those but the only crime book series I could ever get into were the Dave Robicheaux books by James Lee Burke.
I've always been a fan of all things cajun ever since reading about the history of the Acadians as a kid and seeing the film Southern Comfort with its Ry Cooder soundtrack.

The book is even better than the film.
