I thought Spain were magnificent at times.
Don't forget the stunning Spanish third.
That was sweet.
Favourite moment though was the objectionable Pepes hystrionics going unrewarded when Costa brushed him off for the first goal.
Great officialdom but unfortunately the likes of Pepe and Ramos have had a career of getting away with such antics.
All in all football at it's best.
Pepe was pathetic. For a player who can dish it out it was very soft.

Major tournaments define players and the biggest stage separate the great from the greater.
The much debated Messi v Ronaldo argument could reach a decisive conclusion in people's eyes as to who is the greatest if Messi doesn't pull his finger out in this tournament having witnessed Ronaldos unreal performance last night.
And I suspect they both know that.
Not sure how you quite top scoring a hat trick v Spain.
That puts Ronaldo in the same top bracket as David Healy

Agreed Liz. I've never seen Messi play so badly. He's has never been a convincing penalty taker in my view. He has missed plenty for Barca.

Messi 79 from 103 77%
Ronaldo 88 from 106 83%

One thing is that Ronaldo is playing in a better team. Argentina has an awful lot of average players. That being said in this world cup it is Ronaldo 1 Messi 0 at this stage.

Portugal a better side?

Argentina can call on Higuain Dybala Aguero and Di Maria in attack, not to mention Messi .

Portugal make the most of what they have and are better coached.

Argentina are poor defensively and compromise their substancial attacking options to try and patch up what will always be a weak defence.

I wanted to see Dybala off the bench. How many times has he come up with a crucial goal for Juve?

Yes great for Mexico. Germany not up to normal German standards. Never really looked like scoring.

Brazil winning. Switzerland don't look good enough to get back into it. Wouldn't surprise me if Brazil score another couple.

The swiss have improved a bit now. They were chasing shadows early on. It's better to strongarm (fairly) the likes of Neymar than attempt the tackle.
