Someone needs to tell all these teams with grass pitches that they can’t hold concerts.

Kingspan not suitable for concerts. Another reason we should have thrown our £14 million govt money in with footballs £90 million and built a 25-30 k stadium in the titanic quarter. Would have made millions from concerts and other events and split half with the IFA. Now the GAA will get it all when they (eventually) do Casement.

Well, we should be suitable after this.
NI hasn’t the demand to be holding concerts for 40,000 people.

But a high quality stadium down the the docks would have been a fantastic addition (for all 3 codes). Look at how Everton are managing it.

But a high quality stadium down the the docks would have been a fantastic addition (for all 3 codes). Look at how Everton are managing it.

Absolutely right. This was a huge missed opportunity. Just the sort of thing we do really well here.

A shared stadium with the football could have been good (though would be loathed to let terraces go), but with the difference in pitch size (particularly lengthways), I wouldn't be a huge fan of sharing with the GAA. Had tickets on Hill 16 a couple of times during the Croke Park days, for Ireland matches and it just seems like you are miles away from the pitch.

Also wouldn't be a fan of playing most of the time in a half empty stadium, but if Casement does ever get built it'd be good If there was the option of using it rather than the Aviva for any knock put games or similar where we could use more capacity. Probably fantasy, but would be great of sharing facilities like that could be normalised.

Would be a terrible atmosphere. Its bad enough now.

I’ve been to a lot of sports stadiums.

Ravenhill is one of the better ones.

I've often wondered if we could have had a season ticket offer for a shared stadium: buy two, get one free. A fair number of folk might have picked up an interest in a sport they've never been interested in before.

They already via for concerts and haven’t managed any but yes apparently the summer window with the current grass pitch restricts the time frame for them to hold concerts…. Hence they can’t get them..

Kingspan is too small for a typical cocert. Take away a stand (behind the stage) and add in the pitch and you’d still not get 20,000. You never see outdoor gigs with 20k … 30k minimum usually. Costs a fortune to put on an outdoor show and Kingspan wouldn’t be viable. More short sightedness from both UR and the IFA. We could have shared 25k/30k stadium in the titanic quarter and could have split the loot 50:50 from concerts, motocross, corporate etc. could have lowered ticket prices by 20% which would have brought more in and still left plenty of scope for future crowd growth. No point turning, it’s done now and we still have a reasonable stadium all for ourselves and don’t pay any rent (unlike Leinster) But what a missed opportunity. There’s nothing like a great stadium on match day pretty close to a city centre.
