Barney, cheers for the match updates - just got home from a week of travelling through this (not so) green and pleaseant land that meant I couldn't make it down the M4 to Cardiff in time for tonight's match.

Muchos gracias amigo :!: :D

Cardiff try on 78 mins: we cough up possession in their half, Williams nabs it and hares up the field before putting Morgan in.

Conversion is made: 25-22 for Ulster.

Awful performance same problems as last year. Humph grants them a consolation try. Positvies were the defence, superb again and the ability of the back to front up.

Our inability to score tries is a huge worry. That was our first choice team bar Bryn and we blew lots of chances for tries. Tommy took a very oportunist try, but if we lose Humph we are snookered and the search has to begin already for next years OH.

a deserved win in the end but much closer than it should have been
indiscipline MUST be sorted - Neil Best was stupid at the end there

Trimble had another couple of good runs in the second half
i thought Wallacw was generally ok but probably wasn't overly tested

lineout fair but still not contesting on opposition ball

cardiff were pants and are by far the worst welsh side - so really we had to win tonight. but at least it gets a win in SW and we can build performances from there.

spotted 2nd half - melodeon man and crew

for those who were at ravers on wed - we were treated to davies trying to explain the pendulum system - not nearly as eloquently as Neil Kelly
No longer the Celtic League winning coach

The best team won but it was not nearly good enough, Humps still has moments of brilliance but also has the terrible effect of handing out trys to the opposition :?
Nice try from Tommy and almost one from Harrison early in first half.
I said I would like 5 points but 4 is a good start , and an away match at that :red: :red: :red: :red: :red: :red: :red: :red: :red: :red: :red:

Just home after watching the game at CI. Not too many there but warmer than Malone! Could become a regular haunt.

The game may have been a bit scrappy but an away win to kick off the season! Our first win on welsh soil since the formation of the Welsh regions! - this has got to be so much better than last year.

I reckon it is time to lighten up on Paddy - I thought he had one of his best games ever at FB. Maybe not up to Bryn's standard but he definitely was not the liability he has been in the past.

Need to follow it up with a good home win against Edinburgh next week.

Well done lads! Top of the table until at least tomorrow afternoon!
Paul.

Did not see the game, but a win is a win and we have found them hard to come by away from home.
Should be a great confidence boost and hopefully we can build on this.
Stand up for PICU R.V.H.

Just saying it as I see it. There is alot to work on and we have to be realistic of that. Very little has changed from last year.

Good performance for first game of the season. Unfortunately gifted Cardiff 17 points but apart from restarts it was good defence and encouraging attacking play. Called it after 10 minutes that Ulster would win as Cardiff looked too nervous and Ulster, frankly, looked professional.
