I would have liked the signing to at least be someone that someone anywhere had heard of.
Is he a mirage?

Re: Who the feck is Tim Boys?
Have to say I am a little surprised at the level of negativity. I don't know the guy from Adam - albeit I know Adam reasonably well - but he has played 40 odd super rugby games and is a 100+ NZ provincial rugby man.
If you read the articles it appears he is not the biggest of back row players but is a specialist 7 with a huge tackle count & a nuisance at the breakdown.
Guess what Ulster are currently missing? A specialist 7 who is good at the breakdown.
I have no idea if this guy is any cop, think I'll wait and see.
In the meantime

We've got DIack and Wilson to play rugby. As long as he is as hard as nails he will be fine.

Forgot to add, in the middle of our season & Super Rugby about to start, who were we expecting???

Re: Who the feck is Tim Boys?
Where is Diack btw?
Indeed baggy top tackler in the ITM and yes we should give him a chance but I am still waiting to give Raaymakers his chance a player who apparently is quickly gaining a reputation as an uncompromising loose forward with an ability to play second row and who processes a huge work rate and skill.
The main concern I have is will he be fit enough to hit the ground running at this level and provide the player that we need in some important games coming up. Also it says even less about Reidy, Butterworth, Ross and even the uncompromising loose forward Raaymaker that we had to go out and find someone that can tackle…

We weren't expecting anyone at all Baggy! So obviously it's positive in that regard.BaggyTrousers wrote:Forgot to add, in the middle of our season & Super Rugby about to start, who were we expecting???
I have briefly rescanned the posts and although they might err towards the slightly negative, I think the general tone is more 'stunned neutrality' about someone we haven't heard of and will only be about for a few months.
Like anyone, I really hope he proves to be the answer for open side cover while Henry is out. Would be stupid not to give him a chance to impress.
What I find disappointing is that we don't seem to have any long-term succession planning for our ageing back row. If there is talent in the Academy in these positions, the coaching team certainly don't seem to think that they are ready.
Re: Who the feck is Tim Boys?
Wish him the very best here in Ulster.
My question would be why now? Henry is close to returning, thank God. Henderson is starting tomorrow and Williams is improving.
We could have used this guy a month ago or more when we had to flog Diack and Wilson week in and week out. This smacks of poor management of lack of planning.

Has Hendy done much training over the past few weeks, anyone know?

Red…..we had Raaymakers for that period and in theory still do. Why was he not used ??Red wrote:Wish him the very best here in Ulster.

In fairness Red, I don't think anyone knows how close Henry is to returning. I would imagine he's not close at all when he was only allowed 30 mins gentle exercise on a bike last month.Red wrote:Wish him the very best here in Ulster.

More of concern is that Henderson doesn't appear to have had any game time before being literally thrown to the Tigers or do water boy duties count now?

I believe he has been in full training with the team for a few weeks, but that means little as he will not be match fit.Kofi Annan wrote:Has Hendy done much training over the past few weeks, anyone know?

Re: Who the feck is Tim Boys?
I'll put my neck on the line here, he'll be a nuggety kiwi 7, slightly undercooked from being part time but still better than Ross, Reidy and Butterworth.
It's a panick signing because those we have signed to cover the backrow have been found out as being completely dung.
It's a win win situation in many ways for Brynser. If he's good Bryn gets a Purple Heart from the Corporal. If he's turd, well, he's still probably better than what we currently have.
Raaymakers, Christ alive. What a complete, unfunny, joke. What on earth is he still doing here?

Re: Who the feck is Tim Boys?
I welcome him wholeheartedly and I am sure Mr Boys will do an excellent job for us in Chad's absence. And as Baggy says, with the Super Rugby campaign kicking off in a month we weren't going to get anybody better whether we wanted them or not.
However I can't help but feel that with our current lack of back row options we would have been better giving some of our current players a chance. Boys fills the gap for the rest of the season, who fills the gap for the World Cup?
I don't like all the criticism of Raaymakers. Plagued by injuries and hasn't got a look in due to Tuohy coming back slightly early and now Hendo back. Not his fault, I actually feel sorry for him having to come over here only to feature for the Ravens once.

You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Buck... Doesn't it say a lot that a part time mid season panic buy is considered better than 3 planned back row signings last summer.BuckRogers wrote:I'll put my neck on the line here, he'll be a nuggety kiwi 7, slightly undercooked from being part time but still better than Ross, Reidy and Butterworth.

Sorry ruck but Raaymakers contract is nothing short of a joke and total incompetence in having a player arrive here on short term emergency cover with a serious injury with either neither foresight of a clause or stupidly to go ahead. Even Raaymakers give an newspaper interview in which he expressed his total surprise that Ulster still went ahead and signed him with such a serious injury.
