Will he be in the squad for Racing - I have a feeling he may well be there.

I've been told from two independent accounts (neither Russ) that SvDM was head and shoulders above anyone else on his bow for Banbridge.

Hopefully he has another successful run out this weekend for the bann and has not been brought to Paris as an extra man.

There are some guys (certainly in my day) that weren't exceptional trainers but come match day they excelled.

If his non selection comes down to solely not ticking boxes at training you must query how we are selecting if he is indeed capable of big performances.

Appreciate the considerable step up between AIL 1B and the Pro 14 but this guy did hold down a starting berth for two seasons in a not too shabby Lions team.

Gravy Train might be nearer the mark,

[gravy train]
NOUN
informal
.used to refer to a situation in which someone can make a lot of money for very little effort.

 harsh Merv.

If SVDM gets a run out for ulster in the next couple of weeks and puts in a decent showing then maybe you should change your name to “Big Merwe In” in his honour!

Is that the same Rory who was so positive about signing RAY? If so I wouldn’t listen to him too much. Anyway, Rory can’t have enjoyed being shunted all over the place by the Tigers pack in the first half, so should be open to other alternatives.

Good day for the Ulster sides in 1B - good away wins for Banbridge at Naas and Hinch at Belvo, and big home wins for Ballymena at home to Mary's, and Armagh who hoked Malone!

Ulster 1 - 2 - 3 at the top of 1B, Banbridge, Malone, Hinch. Not a great start for Ballymena though, just one win, bottom of the table for now.. I watched Malone on Saturday, good match, gave Belvedere a bit of a hiding, front row of Cooper - McBurney - Kane was pretty impressive, didn't get it all their own way in the scrum but impressive in the loose, particularly Cooper who made two massive Cian Healy-esque breaks, one of which he finished off with a lovely offload to the trailing winger for a try. They looked like a good well-drilled side tbf, first time I'd seen them this season. Dalton was on the sidelines, as was Jack Owens, who is apparently out until the new year with concussion
