David McIlwaine is a fullback in the Ulster Academy, I believe he plays for Queens University RFC but I'm open to correction.

Thanks just a name I wasn't familiar with. I suppose with Bryn and Jamie injured it makes sense.

Bryan Young returns to the Ulster team for the pre-season friendly at the Stoop (1430 BST).

The prop has recovered from a hip injury which led to his withdrawal from the squad ahead of last Friday's 26-14 defeat by Bath at Ravenhill.

Ulster coach Brian McLaughlin has made nine changes from the line-up which faced Bath.

Darren Cave and Ian Whitten are the only survivors in the backs while Paul Marshall is out with a shoulder injury.

Ulster: David McIlwaine; Craig Gilroy; Darren Cave; Ian Whitten; Nevin Spence; Niall O'Connor; Ian Porter; Bryan Young; Andi Kyriacou; Declan Fitzpatrick; Johann Muller (capt); Ryan Caldwell; Pedrie Wannenburg; TJ Anderson; Robbie Diack.
Replacements: Nigel Brady; Paul Kyrayiannis; Adam Macklin; Tim Barker; Neil McComb; Michael Heaney; Ian Humphreys; Luke Marshall; Johnny Shiels; Mark McCrea

Hello from Quins

How strong would you say your team for Saturday's match is?

Not very strong. Two Academy players making their full debuts in the back three, and on other who has only ever started one other game. A relatively strong centre partnership, but our third choice 9 and second choice 10. In the backrow, only Wannenburg (who looks a very good player) would be first choice. The second row partnership is very strong, even if Caldwell wouldn't be a fans favourite. The front row is essentially our second string.

None of our Irish international players are available, Simon Danielli, BJ Botha and Ruan Pienaar also unavailable- if you asked me to pick our strongest XV only three of the players starting on Saturday would be involved.

1 Tom Court
2 Rory Best
3 BJ Botha
4 Dan Tuohy
5 Johann Muller
6 Stephen Ferris
7 Willie Faloon
8 Pedrie Wannenburg
9 Ruan Pienaar
10 Ian Humphreys
11 Andrew Trimble
12 Paddy Wallace
13 Darren Cave
14 Simon Danielli
15 Jamie Smith

So you can see there are a LOT of key players missing for Ulster. We're just looking for a good performance and a challenging game. Any word on the Quins team?

Not particularly.... there are some very inexperienced backs and most of the forwards wouldn't be first choice if Ulster had a full squad to pick from.

There is only one 1st XV starter in the backs (Cave), it will be the first senior Ulster appearance for McIlwaine and Gilroy and Porter has only had one senior appearance (as a replacement)

In the forwards, Diack has been there or thereabouts for the 1st XV, Wannenburg and Muller are new to Ulster and I'd hope both will be 1st XV picks but the rest would have other players ahead of them.

I'm pleased it's not on TV. Our team is looking very inexperienced and Harlequins put 40 on Connacht :(

I suppose it depends on the team Harlequins put out.

I know young McIlwaine and he is a definite star in the making. I hope he does well.

McIlwaine has never been listed as a member of Ulster's academy.. What age is he?
