Feck knows but it looks genuine, unless Humps, Colonel Logie and the Blues management are all taking the pish

Lets hope its true. He's been 1 of the Bleus best backs this season, looks better than some of the seasoned All Blacks!!!! :salut: :bounce:

Would be capped in any other nation in world rugby. Remember he's sitting behind Smith, Noni, SBW, Kahui and Toeva fr the AB's!!!!

On the Blues website he is listed as a fullback

http://www.theblues.co.nz/players/177-Jared-Payne.aspx
An elusive fullback who has played for the New Zealand Under-21 and Schools Sevens teams, Jared Payne is one of eight new players to join the Blues squad for the 2011 Investec Super Rugby competition.

Payne first played representative rugby for Waikato and made his made his Super Rugby debut in 2007 with the Chiefs before joining the Crusaders for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

The Northland captain was one of the most exciting attacking players in this year's ITM Cup and will be looking to replicate that form for the Blues in 2011.
I see Filo Paulo is listed in the Blues squad..maybe he has been putting in a good word for Ulster.

From a 2010 news clipping
No-one is happier to see the rise of young Crusaders wings Zac Guildford and Sean Maitland than Jared Payne.

The Northland captain regards himself as a specialist fullback but he was required to deputise on the wing last season with All Black Leon MacDonald a fixture in the No15 jersey.

Yeh all signs are he is a project player signing, 3 year contract, never represented New Zealand/Maori/7's.

Any time I've seen him playing in the super 14/15 he has played mostly full back. He is a very good full back, winger or centre. For me this is a cracking signing and really gives us some much needed depth in the back line.

Well done again Sir Hump on another very good signing.

seriously, this guy is some player. He has been outstanding for the Blues this season albeit in the centre. Playing better than any Hurricanes backs anyway.

Humph has done himself proud again. Fair play to the man

Wowee David Humphreys take a bow!

This is a superb signing for Ulster and will add real versatiltiy to the squad. Jared Payne is a very good player who is never likely to represent the All Blacks with players such as Fruean and Toeva, Dagg and Crotty all ahead of him. He is primarily a Fullback, Outside centre but can play wing also. Superb for Ulster as he can slot in at the back and also play 13 if need be (though with Spence and Cave and Marshall and Wallace) around i would imagine he will be mostly at 15. Now all Ulster need I think is a backrow that can play as a genuine opensider to back up Faloon.
