Squad for next season

Post by breakdown »

When the P3 announcement was published, it said that the squad for next season will be finalised in the coming weeks, granted we may still have some more announcements etc what will our squad be like? What academy players are making the step up?

LH Prop: Callum Black, Paddy McAllister, Tom Court
Hooker: Best, Kyri. (Brady/Annett)
TH Prop: John Afoa, Adam Macklin, Declan Fitzpatrick, (Kyle McCall?)
Second row: Muller, Tuohy, Stevenson, McComb. (Henderson/Barker)
Back Row: Ferris, Henry, Diack, McCommish, Wilson (Birch/Another signing?)

Scrum Half: Pienaar, Marshall, Porter
Out Half: iHumph, Jackson, (McKinney?)
Centre: PW, Cave, Marshall, (Farrell?), Spence, Allen
Wing: Gilroy, Trimble, Bowe, Cochrane
Full Back: Payne, D'arcy, Nelson

Anyone know the situation regarding any of the academy players, Allen, Nelson etc?

Imo we need all the players we can, Barker should stay and Henderson should get a development contract. Although if Brady stays, Annett can go, if Brady goes Annett stays, we are covered at hooker right now I think.

Think the plan is to move Henderson into the back row over the next couple of seasons. He's a big lad but never going to have that 6'6 6'7 frame that we need in the second row.

I would have thought that we would be moving Tuohy into 6, given Ferris' lack of gametime and we already know what Tuohy can do at 6, then play Henderson at second row. No point wasting a talent like Henderson out of position and not playing as well as we can when we can put Tuohy there and play to near enough the same level as he does in second row

Touhy is an established second row pushing an Ireland spot, wouldn't be messing about with his position just to play back up to Stevie Ferris. Henderson is an u20 hoping to break through/provide back up for the 1st team. Ulster had him down as a no8 for his ERC registration. He seems like a big lump who is mobile enough to carry as an 8, will have to wait and see if gets any game time before evaluating him further.

According to the stats he already is 6ft 6.

Definately light in the back row.

I thought Henderson was a second row, must be wrong. Henderson must be registered as a back row then

Henderson is a 2nd row. Ulster list him there in their squads and he played lock 2 seasons in a row for the 20s.

I'd be very surprised if he nailed down a place in the backrow for Ulster.

Bigger than Touhy and Stevenson then.... Doubt it.

We have a big enough bunch of second rows if Henderson is to play there and considering Tuohy, McComb and Henderson can play back row I would expect at least 1 of them to mainly play as a 6/8.

We need someone for about 60% of the matches that Fez won't play in.

Apparently so, 115kg as well (or there abouts). A brute of a young man, punches gobby English little scrum halfs in the face as well. :cowboy:

would like to hear some news about developments in the back row.

Tuohy is becoming excellent in the second row, I'd rather not see him being moved. If Henderson is coming in to learn under JM that's one thing, but I wouldn't be averse to trying to develop younger players into a cohesive back row.

Does he have any experience in the back row, at school or anything?

He'll do me then. I like a bit of nastiness in our forwards.. we'll miss that in P3 :(
