I'm surprised that nobody has commented on SAS Rogue Heroes on the Beeb. Binged it last week and thoroughly enjoyed the series. A question to any local historians on here. Was Paddy Maine as mental as he is portrayed in this program?
Haven't watched it but there seems to be a sizeable body of historical opinion that believes he was psychotic. Possibly the definitive man for his time? The incident where he essentially led the summary execution of a room full of Italian and German pilots would certainly be held up to some scrutiny these days.
Watched it all this week. Certainly a screw loose of some sort.
Was he gay? Looked like it in the series, or am I reading too much into it?

That's another widely held theory - that he channelled his repressed homosexuality. I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the Germans didn't like it up 'em.
Volunteer at an animal sanctuary; it will fill you with joy , despair, but most of all love, unconditional love of the animals.

From what I have read he ( Paddy )was educated- articulated and didn't approve of foul language especially if directed at woman. If a homo it was latent , He was meant to have idolise his mother -- ( very Irish condition ) which left other women sinking in the wake .
The sober Paddy was meant to have a bit restrained but calculating definitely not mad and wild knowing exactly what he was doing while the drunk Paddy was unpredictable with a hair trigger .
The problem there were two Paddy's and you didn't know which was in front of you but if he said " lets go for a drink " the wise man left early.
He couldn't abide Officiers who used rank to achieve privilege - he considered rank had responsibility to those under them -- which included seeing that before going to face the enemy they were willing to walk though walls to achieve their objective and thus survive, and therefore worthy of trust when facing danger and he admired those he trusted. ( it was hard earned )
Within this carapace of skepticism there lives an optimist
Just stumbled across 'Mini-matchmakers' on the Beeb. This must be the most dreadful tv I've ever seen. Enlisting children in an adult dating show? how is that even wiuthn a mile of being acceptable?

Are they like the Celebration version of normal matchmakers, or are they just the traditional size ones, before they went extra long?
