Like all/most wars the problems of Northern Ireland are about land to live in with like minded people ( cultural , Colour, Religion )

And we create are ghettos some are the size of countries, some as small as a street and then we find we want/need more space -- space occupied by someone else .

My initial thoughts last night were that Brandon Lewis had given Poots a private assurance that the protocol was going - not that you could set any store by any Tory assurance.

The Party reaction seems to contradict that.

All quare crack at any rate.

I hope they're all enjoying their centenary

From an outside perspective, the Unionist people deserve far better than the hopeless leadership displayed by the DUP.
First, the hubris of backing Brexit thinking it would be beaten. Then backing the European Research Group against May who was trying to avoid NI being differently treated. Then being duped by the charlatan Johnson into dumping the backstop and helping Johnson into power. Then the unionists betrayed utterly by Johnson with the international treaty on the Protocol. Now the farcical infighting.
Some level of competent leadership is urgently needed or we will end up with a united Ireland by default. That's not the way it should happen. All it takes is for the middle ground to conclude that unity is a better option and it could happen quite suddenly.

No. The Unionist people vote for them in great swathes.

You could argue that we don't deserve the Tory government, but in a complex PR system, the NI populace gets exactly what it deserves.

Sometimes its alot easier to see from the outside looking in.

DUP dinosaurs accelerating a New Ireland faster than any other political party.

Thon entrance at DUP HQ is surely a metaphor for the state of the party. The wee brass plaque is sorely in need of a rub with Brasso (if not of the relic) and the wood hasn't had a lick of Ronseal in manys a year. Durty clarts.

Sometimes I despair, of this place, I really despair.

From the BBC website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-60317736

"A political row over the title of the new commissioner for Ulster Scots is being partly blamed for the delay in legislating for a new cultural bill at Westminster...

It is understood the Democratic Unionist Party has argued that the title Ulster Scots commissioner is too narrow and the post should instead be named Ulster British Commissioner."

Sinn Fein must be laughing themselves to a standstill.
