Re: Any word on the Academy?
And there's the rub. Good coaches in a good school set-up lead to good players feeling the pleasure of playing and developing a vision and aspirations. Good players in a poor set-up with poor coaches get fed up. Passionate engagement becomes frustration, no real hunger to continue after school and a feeling of being pushed hard for no real benefit.

Re: Any word on the Academy?
New CEO repeatedly talking about our young players, who were leading Irish Under 20s in the 19-24 age bracket.
Looking at those age groups you'd list our standouts as:
2020 McCann, McIlroy, Stewart
2021 Sheridan, Doak
2022 McCormick, Crothers, Wilson, Postlethwaite, McLoughlin
2023 McNabney, Irvine
2024 Ward, Boyd, Hopes, McKillop and Kenny didn't play 6Ns due to injury but expect will standout this summer at JWC.
Not all development is linear, dome players will develop better than others but with a quality technical coaching ticket you are looking at the backbone of our match day 23.

Re: Any word on the Academy?
That’s an unbelievable academy intake
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Why?
Almost half of them come from Leinster. Which is worrying.
I don’t want to support a team of Leinster men. If I did, would it not be worthwhile travelling to the RDS every other week instead?

Re: Any word on the Academy?
Mckillop every bit as good just had no luck this year with injury. WDK absolutely quality for the 20s and Clark Logan is a top level scrumhalf.
Murphy will be our 10 before long
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Don’t think Murphy will be our 10, he was average enough at u20 level and looks a bit small, not a good omen for stepping up to pro rugby.
If Ulster sign Aidan Morgan he will be in the driving seat and could well be out flyhalf for the next decade.
I do agree on McKillop, an out her big blindside flanker though, himself and McNabney are similar enough.

What if a Ukrainian (or similar) refugee plays for Ulster? Will this be acceptable?Big-al wrote:Why?

I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Do you know how tall, sorry short, Morgan is?Big-al wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 10:23 pm Don’t think Murphy will be our 10, he was average enough at u20 level and looks a bit small, not a good omen for stepping up to pro rugby.

Have we a plan to keep these guys out of Ollie's?
