So ulster are providing just over a third of the potential grand slam winning U20s. Be interesting to see how many can make the next step up, you would hope at least a couple will.

Progress depends on two things

I once defined the difference between the idea and the deed as

The will and the opportunity

Do the openings exist in the players best position
And is the player dedicated to achieve his maximum potential ?

If a squad consists of 45 players that is 3 players in each position a player to make the squad must be better than those already in the squad

That is the reality and the reason why many in the under 20s don’t progress much further
Within this carapace of skepticism there lives an optimist

Ireland U20 Vs Scotland U20 - 5pm KO
Live on BBC Red Button and Iplayer - Virgin Media 2

Looking forward to this, healthy dusting of Ulster players aiming for a grand slam, trophy winning mentality.

Ulster pair Carson and Postlewaither in the centre, McLoughlin and captain Crothers in the back row, with McCormick at hooker.
Forwards Hanlon, Wilson and McNamee on the bench.

Love the way that McLoughlin carries the ball with real venom. Postlethwaite playing very well too. Scotland are abysmal though. They got relegated from the elite division of the Junior World Cup last time it was played in 2019 and unless next year's crop are a big improvement on this lot, I wouldn't bet on them getting promoted back straight away.

After 31minutes Ireland lead 19 to 0 with 3 tries. Scotland are really disappointing so far.

,33 minutes and 4th try and bonus point. Really impressive that most of the passes are being made to players who are actually moving forward at speed rather than standing still.

All very comfortable for Ireland, they are showing no signs of letting up though, very disciplined performance.

Postlewaithe the pick of the backs and Crothers pick of the forwards for me.
McLaughlin is a very abrasive carrier.

Postlethwaite is one of those rare players who looks like he has plenty of time on the ball.

Mark my words-Ulsters first string centre partnership will be Hume and Postlewaite in a years time.

The Scots and the Welsh are more than a bit embarrassing at the minute. I hope the Italians come through to senior level.

Did I hear correctly during the commentary that, going into todays match, Crothers tournament stats were 55 tackles and none missed?

That is some going over four matches.

KOTH, after watching the last 5 games has your opinion changed on any of the Ulster lads? I still think Crothers could have a good career and James McCormick will leapfrog John Andrew in the next year. I agree on postlethwaite, he will play for Ireland some day. Unfortunately, Ben Carson is just a big lump who doesn’t offer anything, he won’t make it. Wilson and Mcnabney are exciting and still have another year at this level. Mcloughlin is someone I would like to see more of, very powerful with good footwork and athleticism
