Combined effort outbid Sky - apparently worth an extra £10m/year v the current deal. If BBC show a game live, ITV show highlights and vice versa. Article does have some Celtic teams/Pro 12 bashing, but ignore it.

One consequence of the reorganisation of the European Cup last year was that clubs in France and England now receive substantially more income from the tournament, with the proceeds now divided between the three leagues that supply the competitors rather than the six unions the teams come from.

Is the above true? Did they not give guarantees that the Pro12 teams/unions would not receive less income from the Supadoopa Cup, so that the English and French would only get more if and when there was more money generated than under the Heiny? Have they reached that point, or are they still drawing in less by way of TV and sponsorship than the old ERC?

I don't believe they Soupa Doupa has reached such a level, I'm basing that on the fact no pro-SDC publication nor the PRL stooges have mentioned this which I am almost certain they would have had it come to pass.

That and Heineken are still the main (only?) sponsor and are paying substantially less as they were only one of four supposed sponsors the SDC would get on board...

Sky prefer games that occur weekly over a season and they can pick fixtures to televise . The Six Nations don't provide pick and chose a 5 week competition requiring a relatively even handed approach rather than the Premiership love in which they exercise .

To much readjustment required to make it an attractive opportunity .

I'd happily have seen it go to SKY rather than have ITV involved, they are utterly clueless on rugby coverage, hence I've never had a shred of interest in the RWC.

BBC get Wales, Scotland and France home matches, ITV get England, Ireland and Italy.

RTE have the Irish rights until 2017. Their rivals for the new contract would potentially be TG4 and TV3 who have the rwc rights down south. There is also UTV Ireland - would they show the games ITV have the rights to??
