Jonah Lomu
Just seen the news. Awful. RIP Jonah. Remember meeting the guy at Cooke rugby club about 10 years back. What an inspiration! What a player!
You've got to get your first tackle in early, even if it's late.

Sad news
Re: Jonah Lomu
Very sad news indeed. Had his fair share of tough battles off the pitch. Will never get his world cup exploits in particular.
It takes a pretty special player to be the standout in an All Blacks team in any era![salut :salut:](./images/smilies/icon_salut.gif)

This is absolutely awful news. He was my first rugby idol.

What a shock, terrible news. He was tweeting just a day or two ago. A real rugby legend. RIP big man.

Re: Jonah Lomu
Watched a programme recently on him visiting Joost van der Westhuizen who has been struck down by MND. Jonah looked well but visibly shocked by poor Joost. You would have given short odds on who would have survived longer.
Cruel end for an abundantly talented player, I'll never forget sitting with my uncle in Dublin watching him trample poor Tony Underwood as he blasted over and through him for one of the four trys he scored in that quarter-final. He was just unplayable at his best and though increasingly you see big wingers, few have the skills that Jonah had when he was simply one of a kind.
By all accounts a real gent too. Very sad news.

Probably safe to say that he was the first global superstar
of rugby. His legacy will long be past of the folklore
of this great game.

I liked to think I shared some attributes with Lomu.
He would me my personal choice as the most influential player on the game of rugby.
I follow him on Twitter and notice he had gone quiet for a while and then seemed to do a tour to Europe for the RWC accompanied with his family.
Touring around when you are on dialisys is a very tricky thing to do, even just from a logistical point of view.
His tweets in recent months seemed to have a lot of "So glad to visit X, with my family." Makes you wonder if he knew his health was declining.
He was a sad loss to rugby a decade ago. Today he is a much sadder loss to his family and friends.
Re: Jonah Lomu
Absolutely devastated. Fantastic man on the pitch, an even better man off it. Will be sorely missed.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Re: Jonah Lomu
His transplanted organ apparently failed in 2011 & he was waiting for another to become available.
If you enjoy good health, consider yourself lucky & never take it for granted ..........maybe never decide somebody else is a malingerer unless in full possession of incontrovertible facts.

Re: Jonah Lomu
Very sad indeed and unexpected as his last kidney transplant had gone well and he was looking well at the RWC and there is a photo of him last week in Dubai.
He brought rugby to a lot of people who previously had no real interest in the sport, RIP
