Saw a sea otter quite close to the shore just west of Helen's Bay this morning. Lying on it's back eating a crab cool as you like. No photographic evidence unfortunately.

Saw an interesting little finch in my garden the other day which I am 95+% convinced was a Twite but again wasn't able to get a photo. I wrote to my contact in BTO who suggested it was more likely to be a drab coloured Linnet based on probability, but from my description conceded it might be a Twite.

I have had Linnets and Lesser Redpolls (the other possibility) in my garden before, and I'm pretty certain this wasn't either of these. Apart from size and colouration, the deciding features were its stubby beak, in relation to the rest of it - it was out of proportion for a Linnet, and the brown streaked head, as opposed to a greyish head).

Am aware that Twites aren't resident in County Down, but they are sometimes a winter visitor. Camera is left at the ready in case it comes back, but after 3 days, there's been no other sign, even though the charm of goldfinches it was with has been back (unless it was a different charm - we do get a lot of them).

Dandering on a causeway by the Mar Menor on the 27th, in 25 degrees with people sunbathing, I watched a flamboyance of flamingos dining in the salty lagoon, rich in shrimp and other delicacies. Boysohmansir but they are big-nosed bastids.
