Match Report: Glasgow Warriors 17-22 Ulster Rugby

Jackson scored a try and added seven points from the boot while Darren Cave and a penalty try accounted for the rest of Ulster's haul.

The returning Finn Russell kicked superbly for the hosts, who scored tries through Gordon Reid and in-form Tommy Seymour, but they couldn't deny their Irish visitors.

Jackson had something of a mixed start to the game as he missed the easier of his first two kicks before landing a 45m effort a couple of minutes later to give the Ulstermen the lead.

Then in one fell swoop Ulster ecstasy turned to agony as Jared Payne coasted over only for a TMO review to reveal a dangerous clear out by Iain Henderson - no try and a yellow card for the flanker.

But the 14 men in white held firm against their hosts and in the end they were rewarded with a great try through Darren Cave, who slid over in the corner for the score after Charles Piutau made the initial inroads down the wing.

You're most vulnerable after you've just scored, and that proved very true as Glasgow immediately turned over possession from the restart and assaulted the Ulster line, eventually leading to a try for prop Gordon Reid.

Having already had one try chalked off by the TMO, Ulster couldn't believe their luck on the half hour mark when they had a second ruled out after Rodney Ah You was adjudged to have run a blocking line in front of Rob Herring as he dotted down from a maul.

But they did get their second try just before the break, and it proved to be a big one as Leonardo Sarto took out Piutau in a no arms tackle, leading to a yellow card for the winger and referee Ian Davies heading under the sticks for a penalty try.

After the break Ulster couldn't make their man advantage, with Jackson coming closest after racing away only to be caught at the last minute, and instead it was Russell who closed the gap to five with his only penalty of the night six minutes after the restart.

Like so many times before it looked like the tide had begun to turn, none more so than when the Warriors finally got into the lead when the space opened up in the corner for the American to saunter over.

Russell landed the touchline conversion and all of a sudden the game had flipped on its head.

What nobody expected, however, was an immediate Ulster response. Their backline, that ending as it had been all night, clicked again and after Louis Ludik made the initial break, Jackson this time would not be denied the score.

The Ulstermen were going to have to work for their win though as Glasgow came back at them hard with everything they had. However, every time the hosts attacked they were repelled by the Ulster defence.

And when they needed to close out the game, they did so efficiently, driving through the forwards for the final two minutes to seal a vital win that maintains their unbeaten start to the season.
