Anniversary of the death of one the Ulster Rugby royal family is with us once again - hard to believe that it's 10 years, but as the title suggests, Nevin will always be with us, in spirit, in our hearts. :red:

Nevin became Ulster Rugby royalty at a very young age, not by birthright, but by virtue of his own hard work, skills, perseverance and character.

Coincidence that HM Queen Elizabeth's funeral will take place on Monday 19th - the 10th anniversary of the Spence family's funerals too?

It's also the 6th anniversary of my own father's funeral - he passed away on the 4th anniversary of Nevin's death.

Today is an emotional day in the Grumpy household, and Monday will be also.

R.I.P. Nevin, Noel & Graham - always with us. Our thoughts are with the Spence family at this emotional time. :salut:

NB: The TV programme about Emma Spence mentioned in my previous post is still available until Feb 2023 on I-Player at the same link above.

It's beside the (War) Memorial Arch

Could the Aquinas Stand not be renamed as it’s the family stand and probably more fitting in memory!

The museum named for Nevin is in the Memorial stand so that might be part of the naming logic.

It's a superior stand anyway, certainly preferred by the fans who choose to sit.

It's not.

It's called the "Memorial End Stand".

They'll name the 2nd Barrier the Pedant Barrier after you go!

That'll do nicely - since the redevelopment of that stand, I've consistently leaned by back against the 3rd barrier.

I can deny any knowledge of that.

There is a difference between calling it the Memorial Stand and the Memorial End Stand though.
The first implies the stand itself is the memorial (it's not).
The second clearly states its location at the same end of the ground as the memorial, but not the memorial itself.

Another year passes, 11 now.

Though he may well not have been the one to coin it, it was in 1395 that Geoff Chaucer wrote: Time and tide wait for no man.

My Ulster Brethern do not put off till tomorrow what you can do today - tomorrow you may not have the chance, as my old Latin Master Mr. Ross often said, Tempus Fugit.

My mother was an incredibly wise woman, in her kitchen and in her own handwriting was the following quote, it sat there for 20-30 years, perhaps longer: Life is so short and death so certain and when death comes the silence and separation are so complete that one can never make too much of the ties, affections and relationships which bind us to the living.

I counsel you to express yourself to someone who means something to you today - tomorrow may be too late.

See you next year.
