Sad news.

Old school defender and not the worst manager in the world.

Spent a hell of a lot on minutes on the football field which seemingly didn't do him any good in the end.

Yep. Ex professiobal footballers do not seem to have a particularly long lifespan. Even worse I fear for the current professional rugby players.

Quite - if they don't pop their clogs early from neurodegenerative injury, they will mostly be suffering from osteoarthritis from their forties.

Hope they maintain their health insurance to help them with hip and knee replacements.

Was always great to see two pretty ordinary blokes preparing food that you and I could actually aspire to producing.

Personally I couldn't stand Dave Myers, but a sad day for his nearest and dearest and (fwiw) they have my sympathies.

I didn't like the way he often tried to explain the "Chemistry" or "Science" that was happening as food ingredients were brought together, and/or when they were cooking. Biggest load of twaddle ever. He wouldn't recognise chemistry if he fell over a child's chemistry set with the word CHEMISTRY written on it in massive letters.

He still talked twaddle.

He can know it all about physical and organic chemistry or whatever, but I doubt very much he ever carried out proper research on what happens to a individual bits of food when cooked or brought together under certain conditions.

More of a Heston Blumenthal man are you Grumps? He is an honorary FRSC in recognition of his more rigorous application of the principles of chemistry to his culinary art.

Have to say, I once made pea'n'ham soup following his recipe with scientific precision and it was stinkin'. Had to bin it. I even remember the date because it was the day of George Best's funeral.

Anyone read / watched Lessons in Chemistry? Great connection between chemistry and cooking. One of the few instances of the book and the film / tv series being different but both pretty good.

You may be right - when he won Celebrity Mastermind his specialist subject was the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood not the Maillard reaction.
