Re: And today, joining the underground .....
Wasn't there once a major discussion on what rank Grumpy is?
And generally whether Major Grumpy outranked him or vice-versa.
IIRC it was decided that since Cap'n was more of a nautical abbreviation, he was entitled to major respect.

Indeed. As an old sea salt myself (3 years in the RNR - no need to thank me for my service!) I can confirm that the nautical rank is equivalent to a full Colonel in the Army though Grumpy's may have come from the BBBR wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 10:56 amWasn't there once a major discussion on what rank Grumpy is?

Interestingly I recently discovered that my time in Her Majesty's senior service officially classifies me as a "veteran" and I am entitled to a raft of hero related benefits including discounted rail travel. (that's a navy emoticon btw - palm hidden!)

I think it's a selfie ... although, on closer inspection. this chap appears to have lost his right arm, and in those circumstances a left handed salute would be deemed acceptable

Another untimely passing. Came across as a genuinely nice guy who loved his craft.

As commander of the 49th Army he certainly had a strong case to answer for some of the horrors perpetrated in Mariupol.
