I use taxis a couple of times a month to avoid drinking and driving . A couple of weeks ago the driver was complaining about cycle lanes and bus lanes and thought taxis should be allowed in Bus lanes .
I asked would that not make them part of public transport and would he than accept my bus pass for payment .

There's no good reason for allowing taxis to use the bus lanes. They don't reduce congestion.

Are they not like minibuses in parts on town?

Fair point. I suppose there should be some minimum occupancy criteria. Should also apply to private minibuses and people carriers though.

Are you thinking about this asre-about-face?
Why would you NOT let taxis use bus lanes?

Research has shown that traffic disruption can be eased if Subaru drivers are allowed to reverse on bus lanes. After all Subaru backwards is U R A Bus. Clever these researchers.

If a taxi with one person travelling in it can use a bus lane, why not a private car?

Indeed, why not a car?
But then it stops being a priority lane for busses/bikes/etc and becomes a road, which apparently isn't the way forward.

I do have reservations about the Berty-Bus lanes being included. Let's see how that goes if/when they finally start running.
I also have a problem that the incentive for wheelchair accessible taxis is removed.
