Ultimately, Eddie Jones has been a failure for England.
Granted, he won a Grand Slam in 2016 but really since then it's been one off successes such as against Ireland in February and NZ last week. But there has been no consistency.
Despite having the best club side in Europe to form the base of his team, he has squandered the resources available to him.
Jones is a control freak who stifles his players and regiments their every move, He is excellent with the media, I give you that.

It's time the RFU replaced him and made a fresh start, perhaps with Joe Schmidt.

Thanks for the memories, Eddie.

Nice to see the holy trinity of coaching ballbags, Hansen, Gatland, and Jones, all ending on failure.

Great game to watch - one for the true rugby fan, rather than the thrill seeker. And now for the awards:
MoTM: Du Toit (not officially, but certainly for me)
Hair of the match: Faf De Klerk. Although hair of the Tournament goes to Japan's Isileli Nakajima for dyeing both head and beard.
Family of the match: Kolisi, wife, kids and dad.
Interview of the match (worst): Farrell - almost incomprehensible.
Interview of the match: (best) Any of those by Brian Habana, for his sheer enthusiasm.
Sulk of the match: English players taking off their medals as if ashamed of them.
Inclusive diversity moment of the match: SA bringing on Steven Kitshoff - another bold step for ginger equality. Inclusive diversity moment of the tournament goes to Canada for playing our very own ginger: Pete Nelson. Honourable mention tho the Canucks for getting their hands dirty in post-flood clean-up.
Overstatement of the match (sadly): this will lead to a new day in South Africa (many variations).

I'll never forget the interview Erasmus gave after their defeat in their first RWC cup game were they lost to the ABs. He was so happy, so confident. Never seen an interview like it - it was though he had a big secret up his sleave and it was all part of his plan.

It's been a weird tournament, NZ looked invincible against Ireland, England looked invincible against NZ and now SA have turned it on. Each of those sides played one fantastic game I would say. SA were incredibly dull throughout the competition. It really was Smidt ball but with a tougher gnarlier pack. He has some serious talent in the SA backline but I'd didn't see much of it in the previous games. But hey, that's what often wins RWCs.

I sense there is an irony in there, or maybe not.

Wasn’t sure the somewhat one dimensional Boks game plan could outdo the English but it did and it did so easily. The best team won. One for the purest but brut force won the day. England lacked something maybe the ABs was their final. Well done the BOKs

South Africas path to the final was much easier given that they only had to beat Japan and a threadbare Welsh side.
Not much emotional or physical energy was spent en route so they could empty the tank in the final.
England having to beat the 4 championship sides in a row was always going to be a tall order.
Also falling into their traditional trap of believing their own hype didn't help.
They didn't realise that SA were on power with the All Blacks and to defeat them wad going to require the same effort they would struggle to replicate in one week.
Player for player also SA just had more know how and dog about them.
However Englands performance v the Abs is one for the ages and certainly up there with Frances in 1999.
Another side that emptied the tank before being dismantled by the Aussies in similar fashion in the final.
Great tournament thanks Japan!

Basically it was a first try win game with England playing catch up after the ref blew half their game in the first minute . ( over the ball and slowly move -- to slow the opposition recycle ) -- the fact that South Africa missed that penalty actually meant very little -- it was the fact that England had been penalised and could be again gave South Africa a quicker platform.

When the English failed to score from 5 metres using their heavy boys they ran out of ideas -- with Jones having to revert to a power based mid field by moving Farrell to out half .

The South African game plan was some what similar to the Irish -- box kick and keep the opposition in their own half -- with one notable exception the execution was excellent-- Murray's box kick was too telegraphed, lacked height and too long to enable the ball to be contested, with the result that possession was being kicked away to players in space with time to return at pace.

For the Irish it was not a case of the wrong tactics -- just terrible execution.

My own opinion of the current English side is that they are a stronger more powerful side than the one that won the World Cup but the front five lack the intelligence of the players who won and the leadership of Johnston. The team that won had some very knowledgable players the current side doesn't provide the same sense of know-how.

Yeah I would agree with that. They were always going to have the brute force to dismantle Japan. Wales was a tough enough game for them but I agree it would have been less of an emotional rollercoaster than playing England or NZ. You couldn't ask for a better route to the final. Their rugby was largely total pish to watch the entire tournament but came up with the goods when it counted. Ireland being total rubbish and coming 2nd in the group certainly helped the SA cause.
