Pro 12 20/21

Post by Neill_M »

Southern Kings with financial difficulties and Cheetahs unable to travel due to COVID means we have a Pro 12 for season 2020/21.

Will either be a straight home and away 22 game season with no conferences or a conference based 18 game season.

Given the current covid conditions and International commitments my guess would be an 18 match conference would suit all Unions in the Pro12 -- last seasons league to be completed -- european to be completed -- 6 nations to be completed.

I can see all 4 Unions say thank the lord for that.

What's the Pro.12 policy on cancelled games. I assume not 28-0 wins.

Rearranged where possible then 0-0 result - 2 points each.

It's a case of making it up as they go along this season.

If it is an 18 game regular season, with 8 from 8 and a clatter of BPs, even at this early stage, Ulster can't be too many points away from a playoff spot. A few cancelled games would probably do it.

Glasgow look terrible, would take an enormous collapse even by Ulster standards to not finish 2nd in Conference 😉

Are the final 5 fixtures announced yet? Unlikely we can top the group now to get to the final so the priority should be to develop the squad in the remaining games. Excited to see the SA teams join up.

Ulster are top of the conference. 3 points ahead albeit Leinster have a game in hand. Rounds 12 to 16 will be played February 20 to March 20. Ulster will have home games v Leinster, Zebre and Ospreys and trips to Glasgow and Dragons.

Only 2 points behind Gloucester and play them in January so good shot at making Challenge Knockout rounds.

The new Pro 16 from 2021/22 apparently worth £10MN a year extra for the current 12 clubs (£833,000 per club) / £3.3 MN for IRFU.

Previous South African deal was £6MN a year between the 12.
