A lot of discussion re porter being over played and how Healy is way behind, lacking impact from bench, and how unlikely to last to wc. There was a lack of LHs in ire to choose from to back porter up.
This led into overseas recruitment-bod mentioned UR likely potential recruitment of front 5…..but that it’d have to pass the Irfu committee for the green light. Based on the above I can’t see any LH NIQ pre WC for anyone.

I'd agree with this but then I've a real fear that the SA sides are going to dominate this league for years. They stated slow this year and then kicked on. They've increased their budgets and are able to retain players they might normally lose to European teams. They have a considerably larger pot to pick from as well.
The South Africans have raised the standard of the league, bring it on! If we want to compete we will have to get better. If the Welsh drop a team which has been heavily rumoured the Cheetahs look most likely to step in, this would dilute the South African product to a degree. The South Africans brought much needed TV money to the entire league.

In my head nothing has changed, unless we start producing our own players we'll not be winning at the business end of the season, we've got a golden generation of backs, let's up the forwards coming through in the next 3/4 seasons can match them.

We always seem to have a golden generation of backs though
6 years ago we had Jackson, Cave, Marshall (Luke and Paul) McCloskey, Olding, Lyttle, Trimble, Bowe, Stockdale and Gilroy

Not to mention Pienaar, Payne, Ludik and Piutau

I guess our best pack was about ten years ago contained local lads Best, Ferris, Stevenson, Henry, McComish and Henderson along with Afoa, Court, Tuohy, Muller and Williams. Not sure we ever got above four or five local boys on the field at one time.

Excellent news. I was a little worried that Timoney might get poached.

The guy isn't in a great position to argue for a pay rise that's for sure. He's worth a contract and a class operator if he can get fit.

I believe Cooney is packing his valise at the end of the season. A pity if so but I will wish him every fortune. It’s a disgrace how he (and others) have been treated by the d4 shower of runny sh!te.
