Ulster in the Challenge Cup

So probably the most realistic competition we have had a shot at in many a season. Except we have the toughest draw against a bang in form Quins side. We have no Marcell and there could be some doubt over Hendy. Chances are now slim but I'm sure the lads will give it a lash. Discuss.....

Injury update: Marcell out. David O'Conor out. Billy Burns is a doubt. No other injuries reported.

No mention of Addison or Luke Marshall.

Hendy must be grand. Game on.

I see from the quins forum, some are suggesting they could rest players. They have almost played the same 15 for the last 8 games so they may consider resting a few. This is a good year for them with no sarries so they may throw all they have at the prem. Their league didn't throw the playoffs down the toilet.

And this season’s premiership cup who is a bit like our A games has been scrapped so maybe, fingers crossed, they’ll use the Bic Biro as a development game...which of course is risky in itself as its now knockout so only potentially one game for A team.

I don't believe they have the squad to compete on two fronts. We will see what kind team they put out. A couple of injuries to key players would set them back massively. Anyway it's time to say things like 'believe' and SUFTUM.

EOS
Herring
Moore
Hendy
Treadwell
Reidy
Murphy
Timoney
Cooney
Lowry
Lyttle
McCloskey
Hume
Baloucoune
Stockdale

I'm not a massive fan of Stockdale at fullback but in the absence of Addison I would rather keep Lowry at 10. I've gone for Reidy in the backrow as his relentless tackling would be required if the likes of Dombrandt start.

I'd have Burns at 10

Looks like Billy is a doubt. Trying to shake off an injury picked up with IRFU

I think they will go madigan at 10 with lowry at 15 with Lyttle and Moore on the bench. Covers all eventualities. Madigans kicking off the tee will be important.

Cooney and Timoney on the presser duties. Both nailed on starters. I'm still wondering about the forgotten men. Addison, Marshall and McGrath.

The thing about Lowry is, although I see him longterm as a 10, you cannot deny he is very effective at 15. When he comes into the line he adds so much, he can also cut in against the grain finding a gap. Some repeatedly accuse him of being too small but at 10 he is a defensive asset, imo. He gets off the line so quick because of his wicked acceleration. This linespeed from 10 really pressures his opposite number.
